Embedding an image on a post

#362046

Postby TheMotorcycleBoy » December 2nd, 2020, 10:21 am

Hi all,

Could somebody please share the link to the thread that explains how to embed images (.png, .jpg) etc. onto LF posts?

I'd like to post a couple of screen grabs from SIPP provider internet blurb, to help me (and possibly others!) in my quest to find a suitable provider.

many thanks
Matt

Thanks PD,

I've just got this from a PM from IAAG too, so I now have absolutely no excuses, at getting this right!

Matt

Just be aware that not all TLF forums allow posting of images. You might wish to check beforehand.

I use the "Post Images" tool https://postimages.org/

(1) Upload the jpeg file from your computer ("choose images")
Image
(2) Select the file ( which uploads it) and then

(3) Click on the button titled " hotlink for forums" ( which copies the link) which you then paste the link into TLF.

Just a little note that Imgur will delete photographs if the account (assuming it's not fee paying) isn't used for 6 months. I learned that the hard way

It looks like the posting of images on " Company Analysis " is ok ( I just tried a test).

Just remember to provide a reference link to the info source if it not your own analysis or the picture/graph is from someone else ( I'll admit that I've been guilty of failing to do this!).

Don't worry it's gonna (when I get around to it) be screen grabs from ii and Youinvest's SIPP details pages.

Equally important, there's a second part: if you don't need to post such a link, say why you don't need to! (The most usual reason is that it's your own work.)

Both parts are part of the site rules - specifically it's the 3rd bullet point in the "Copyright Rules" section.

I can't this to work. Perhaps I'm being impatient.

So

1. I joined imgur
2. upload a png
3. gave it a title and a description
4. clicked post to "community"

However putting the url of the image between img markup tags gives us this, i.e. no graphic.

Image

FWIW imgur purports the url to the image to be
https://imgur.com/gallery/VCRXxIt

That is the URL of the Imgur web page. Right-click on the image and select "Copy Image Address", which is https://i.imgur.com/PexjOQI.png
Note that it has the ,png suffix

Then put that between img tags

You've missed Step 4 out from the instructions..

4. Right-click on the image, and using the context-menu, select the option that says 'Copy Image Location'. Doing so puts a copy of the actual image URL onto the clipboard of your device.

Ah ha! I must've just grabbed the URI from the address bar, i.e. the web page!

Alas, yesterday was one in a series of long days. All good now I think!

To save time and effort in finding the explanatory manual for Imgur posts from Itsallaguess (viewtopic.php?f=21&t=11255), TLF have now helpfully included it in the 'stickies' (feel free to let me know the correct term) presently shown at the Biscuit Bar:

viewforum.php?f=21

I don't know if it features anywhere else than there*** but is a useful point of reference for those who forget the procedure (ahem). Especially as it is a question that comes up all over the place every so often and people often see the need to reinvent the wheel.

*** It might be a useful 'sticky' also to have at Beerpig's Snug, where many appear to post images (some using other systems though, such as via live.staticflickr.com).
