New Coronavirus Discussion Board
We have just created a Coronavirus Discussion Board within the Lemon Lounge which can be found here viewtopic.php?f=98&t=27011. This should be home to all Coronavirus discussion on the Lemon Fool, except political discussions.
Covid-19 has been with us for most of 2020 and will continue to be with us in 2021. It has wide-reaching societal, economic and health implications which have been extensively discussed on 5 different Lemon Fool discussion boards. The time is right to put these all in one place while allowing the existing topics to retain their focus. It also enables people to create new topics, if required.
Thanks
Clariman

Just to let you know that it doesn't look like the new Coronavirus Discussion Board has been properly activated yet Clariman, as it's not currently possible to create a new post or a reply on any of the moved threads, or start a new topic in the area if there's a need to...

Fair enough. However, in case you have missed it, the specialist Covid discussion topics from the other boards are all still there and must remain on topic.

Any particular reason for taking against the re-organisation? Your posts are very illuminating and will be missed.
The rest of TLF is quite strictly and well-organised, why not coronavirus topics?

OK - I'm now thoroughly confused. My understanding was that there would be one non-political board on Coronavirus in the Snug - into which were loaded all non-political contributions from all other sources. And that seemed to have happened. But when I looked at it a few minutes ago, other boards appeared to have sprouted up, then disappeared. So maybe I'll wait to see what the final solution will be.
However - if it is to be one board, then I'm out. I gave up on the Coronavirus board in the Snug. Mountains of chat that would fit reasonably in a Snug , but full of misunderstandings which some valiant individuals continually attempt to correct - to little or no avail. By all means - let that board continue. But off on the Science/Modelling board there was a chance to inject some non-opinion based mathematics and science - even if occasionally you got out-of-place interlopers. If that's gone - so have I. There are plenty of other (non-coronavirus) boards which I'll continue to read, and occasionally contribute to.

The Coronavirus Modelling topic is alive and well scotia, and has just been moved to the new Coronavirus Discussion area, that's all -
Link here to the new Coronavirus Discussions area, listing all the different topics - https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewforum.php?f=98
And here's a direct link to the above 'Modelling' topic, where I also sincerely hope you're willing to continue with your great charting work - https://www.lemonfool.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=98&t=22737&start=1000#p368202

I would like to thank scotia for the work done.
I myself am unhappy with the idea that discussion of the impact of a pandemic can occur without numbers or statistics. However, there does seem to be something for everyone in the new structure.

Many thanks for the clarification. I now see what has happened. Maybe I looked at it while the changes were underway, or maybe I'm simply getting doddery and failed to comprehend the changes. I think the latter - and it was reinforced when I saw the SNug board was relocated, and the first message in it from the moderator said "Please help to keep things tidy by putting any coronavirus posts on this thread". I failed to realise that this was an ancient post, totally unconnected to the change. However, now that I'm awake, its clear that my belief that we were all forced back to a single board was simply a nightmare. OK - before I doze off, it looks like the new structure is sensible. I recant.

I have sympathies. I am less than convinced it's the perfect solution, but happy and pragmatic to go along with things.
My concerns are that now the "Modelling" topic (and relevant to the new "Numbers and Statistics" topic too) is no longer under the umbrella of "Science" but resides in "Lemon Lounge" alongside the Snug, the discipline on keeping the matter tight and relevant may be harder to achieve.
Time will tell, and as a sort of democracy it appears to be what others wanted, so be it.

We are happy to moderate them on the same basis that those topics were set up. So if they stray away from modelling, then report the offending posts.
There is never any perfect solution, but the new arrangement makes it clearer where CV discussions take place and also allows people to start new topics without first having to get to grips with 75 pages of one topic that has been running for 9 months! That freedom is already being used to good effect e.g. the topic about personal experience of Covid-19 which would not have easily been tagged on to one of the existing topics.

I realise this has been cleared up, but I think there is some confused usage of the word "board" here that may be worth highlighting, basically to try to discourage that usage.
In the underlying phpBB software used by TLF, a "forum" is a place like the Snug in which multiple discussions ("topics" in phpBB-speak) can occur. In the TMF world that many of us came from, the corresponding words were "boards" (for "forums") and "threads" (for "topics"), so there's a strong tendency for places like the Snug to be called "boards" rather than "forums" and discussions like the "Beerpig's Snug No Politics Coronavirus Thread" (now renamed "Coronavirus - General Chat - No statistics" and moved into the new "Coronavirus Discussions" forum/board) to be called "threads" rather than "topics". (I don't think this is a bad thing, because "topic" is the obvious word to use for the subject matter of a board or thread - in particular, "the topic of this thread" is easier to make sense of than "the topic of this topic".)
But if I understand you correctly, in the post I'm replying to, you were using the word "board" for topics/threads - e.g. I can't make sense of "I gave up on the Coronavirus board in the Snug." other than by taking "Coronavirus board" to mean the "Beerpig's Snug No Politics Coronavirus Thread" / "Coronavirus - General Chat - No statistics" thread. If what had been done had been the merging of all non-political coronavirus discussions into a single thread, as that usage of "board" would suggest, I would totally agree with you that this was a bad move. But fortunately, it isn't - the new board is a place like the Snug, in which multiple discussions can take place in separate threads about different aspects of coronavirus rather than all of those aspects having to be lumped together in a thread of several thousand posts.
More generally, I would suggest trying to avoid that usage of "board" for a topic/thread - as I think this demonstrates, it can cause confusion. There is the issue that a single discussion can end up having several different lines of the discussion being pursued, all mixed together (which is not ideal, but tolerable provided the result doesn't become too big and complicated), and there is a temptation to call those separate "threads" within the discussion, but I've found the word "strands" just as suitable - and a "thread" consisting of several "strands" twisted together fits the words' origins very well!

Yes - you are correct that this is where part of my confusion lay - I'll try a bit of self re-education. Another part of my confusion (as well as my age) was possibly a rather nice Cote du Rhone.

Is that since we closed Polite Discussions or was it happening anyway?

Hard to say: I'm not sure when you closed Polite Discussions, and I had already given up on the long coronavirus discussion threads in the snug and elsewhere. It's probably overspill from those that's taking over many new threads.
