How to use the site
If you haven’t yet done so, please read our initial Welcome post which gives general information about the The Lemon Fool (TLF). It is here viewtopic.php?f=103&t=32436

This 'How to' post provides practical information on how to use the site, beginning with an explanation of its structure and then some tips on how to get started.

Site Structure
TLF is purely a discussion site. It does not have its own content other than some useful calculators and our users’ contributions. The home page shows all the discussion forums (‘fora’ for those of you who are Latin scholars) in one place, which are grouped together under the following headings:

  • About the Site: Site information and a place to make suggestions to improve the site
  • Investors’ Roundtable: Discussion of investing techniques and styles including a forum for getting started
  • Sectors and General Share Dealing: self-explanatory
  • Managing Your Finances: General personal finance discussions: bank accounts, ISAs, handling debt, Taxes, Credit Cards etc.
  • Lemon-Aid: Help from fellow Fools on DIY, Building, Computers, Legal Matters, and many other areas. This is an immensely useful section of the site! We have very knowledgeable users on a vast array of topics.
  • Lemon Lounge: Informal chat areas (e.g. a virtual pub ‘Beerpig's Snug’ and a jokes board) and a place to raise issues about the site
  • Travel Lounge: Informal area to discuss all aspects of travel and transport
  • Interests - Culture, Leisure, Food and Nature: Hobbies and interests including history, nature, food, and the arts
  • Polite Debate and Discussion: The only place on the site where politics, religion and philosophy can be discussed.
  • Any Other Business: Miscellaneous discussions such as a place for pedants and one for puzzlers

Within each of these group headings there are individual discussion forums (also known as ‘boards’). For example, within the “Lemon-Aid” group you will find a forum (board) called “Building and DIY” and another called “Legal Issues (Practical)”. Then within each forum (board) you can create your own topic (also known as a ‘thread’) by posting a discussion point or question. You could also post a reply on someone-else’s topic.

Getting Started
Start by browsing the forum groups and the forums (boards) within them. See what catches your eye or find somewhere suitable to ask your burning question. If it is not obvious where your question should be posted, just ask and someone will help you.

For those wishing to invest for the first time and are looking for some help or pointers, then the most suitable board to ask general investing questions is the “How do I Invest” board which can be found here viewforum.php?f=88 .

Remember, TLF is a friendly and welcoming community, so feel free to ask for help. Be sure to read the site rules and remember that this is a discussion site, not a financial advice site, so always do your own research before following the suggestions of others on any internet discussion forum. If you would like to, you can introduce yourself or ask questions about the site here viewtopic.php?f=103&t=32427 . We look forward to reading your first posts.
