Damn, I only just saw this topic when Clariman cross-referenced it. Sad and shocking. Met him the one time and loved his arid sense of humour. A valued contributor here who will be sorely missed. RIP.

Thank you to Chris for letting me know about Pink Dalek, the Rusty Tin Pot.

I will miss him greatly - whenever that 'PD' would appear on my phone because he was calling to point out some post I had missed, or just chat, I always knew I'd have a fun few minutes!

He was such great fun at the socials, always kind. He had a great set of values and was always ready to help people with his knowledge, though he frequently played this down.

It is only fitting that I had a £25 win on my premium bonds this month as he always commented on the thread for wins.

His passing is a great loss to us all, the whole community is lesser without him.

I also pass my condolences to his family and friends.

RIP old fella!

Mel

PD was always so courteous and helpful to me. I am so sorry he has left this earth. He was a true gentleman. My sympathy not his family.

PD was a terrific poster, well loved and above all helpful - always with information or a pearl of wisdom. His contributions were informative without being hectoring or obsessive and for that reason much valued.

Sadly missed in the world, and by his Lemon friends.

Oh my goodness, just seen this. I am literally sat here in tears.

My sincere condolences to PD's family. I never met him in real life, but he was a fabulous contributor here and on TMF.

I've been away from LF for a few days, so I'm just catching up, but I felt a physical sense of shock and grief when I read this. I'd spoken to him and we'd PM'd on several occasions, and I can only endorse what others who knew him better have said.

It does make me realise what a very real sense of community there is here, even though I suspect most of us have never had any direct contact with other Fools. I'm sure we all contribute our words of wisdom on other forums (Pistonheads, for example) but I never feel that I `know' other contributors on those forums, and I doubt if I'd feel anything like as upset to read of a contributor's death as I do here. Perhaps it's because there's a relatively small number of regular contributors here compared to other forums, so that we do get a feeling of `knowing' them after a while - almost like an extended family.

If PD's wife is reading this thread I hope it will provide her with some comfort to know how much PD was held in high regard by us.

This is exactly how I feel. Thank you for expressing it so well. C.

I am really shocked and greatly saddened. I only met PD once, at the LF social in the bar near Liberty's a couple of years ago, the only one I have attended. Apart from being entertaining, he was a real gentleman and as I could barely walk after standing on my gammy leg for such a long time, walked me to the roadside and hailed me a taxi. Since then, we have had the odd chat on the phone and exchanged emails occasionally and, as with so many others, he was always quick to respond to my queries on the board and made a great effort to be helpful to everyone. I felt I had made a new friend and had hoped to meet him and his other half at Cliveden or some restaurant nearby but Covid came along and put paid to that idea. He was far too young to die and I still can't believe that he has beaten me to it. I had vaguely registered that I hadn't seen any posts from him recently but I have been so busy fighting a losing battle with my large garden and house without any help, thanks to Covid, that I haven't actually spent much time on TLF myself. What was special about PD was that he went out of his way to help people and answer their questions, sometimes involving research by him, even though he had no personal interest in the subject himself. There are a couple of issues I wanted to get back to him on but had not yet found the time. He will be greatly missed by many and TLF will not be the same without him. I still can't believe he has gone.

I’m very sorry to read this. Though we moved in différent TMF circles, those orbits did sometimes overlap and he always struck me as a smart and thoughtful person with a subtle sense of humour.

Condolences to those who were privileged to know him in person - I’m sure you have many positive memories to draw on

It was only today that I read the sad news and as i did I gasped and immediately broke my promise not to talk to Mrs Bnc when we are in different rooms, telling her that a long-standard contributor, profile Pink Dalek, had died.

My contact with PD was via TMF and TLF and i never met him but we did speak via telephone on one occasion my having been banned (again) from TMF I messaged him and asked him to call me - he did - because i wanted to ask him to post something on my behalf. He asked me to promise not to disclose his identity, I kept my promise. He refused to post on my behalf, he'd rather not as TMF didn't like that sort of thing, contrary to posting 'rules', also he didn't entirely agree with what I saying. We chatted for a few minutes.

I often wondered what his job/work was. He evidently had an understanding of commercial property and the law generally. He had an excellent memory for what I'd posted often long ago and would remark accordingly. I think the last time he did was in connection with Mrs Bnc's car and her driving into the garage manoeuvrability issues.

My impression was of an affluent man, quietly spoken, a confident personality and dry sense of humour.

I send my condolences to his wife and family; and wish them a long and healthy life.

Can't quite imagine you ever being banned from anywhere as you seem to me to be too mild mannered to warrant such treatment. (Maybe you've mellowed?)

Peter was a keen follower of people. He was quite outspoken in his own way. What appealed to me was his keen interest in the Fool, Motley or otherwise.

I told Mrs Bnc that: she chuckled. During my late teens socialising times my then best friend and i were asked how come we were banned from so many places: best friend answered "practise'.

Peter was like a ray of sunshine. His passing was so sudden and I miss him deeply. He introduced me to the Fool and often raved about it. He was a top geezer. A true gentleman.
