Another scam ad perhaps?
Well, a typical banner ad keeps appearing;
The System changed the Economy
With this new method every Brits are now enjoying life at its fullest.
Every Brits?
Anyway, at the bottom it actually says gowshomerepair.com
Puzzled, I clicked for the hell of it and it takes one to a copy of the Forbes website - with a gowshomerepair address...
https://www.gowshomerepair.com/?placeme ... gIcQPD_BwE
Lots of interesting quotes - "Elon Musk" says
""You know, no one was behind Bitcoin from the beginning, but behind this coin from start is a big and mighty China. I envy Europeans very much that they were one of the first to be allowed to invest with YuanPay Group.
... When the name of China's coin is released many people will become millionaires practically overnight. I personally, and my company Tesla will definitely take part in this."
Now, I may be overly cynical, but I suspect this is not 100% genuine. Can anyone ask Google to cease and desist? I know it's not the fault of our estimable site owners C & S

Time for a reminder that anyone who wishes to support the site with a voluntary subscription of £20 or more, gets to see the site ad-free for 12 months. donate
Entirely voluntary but helpful and appreciated.

People that choose this way of removing ads rather undermine the free site they are enjoying. C.pje16 wrote:I didn't even see the ad

To be clear, it is a free country and I don't judge. However we do appreciate the financial support where someone feels willing and able to.

But is this really the case? Do we know whether clariman and stooze are struggling financially to keep the site going, or totally coining it, or something in between?
The comparable site I used to inhabit is also supported by donations and at one stage, the site proprietor was dipping into his pocket to the tune of a couple of hundred quid a year. When this came to light we had a fundraising drive and a year later the forum accounts showed a couple of £k surplus after all expenses. Are there any accounts or book keeping records published for TLF Ltd, which would illustrate whether the site is being undermined by non-contributors?

This is the problem I had. I use a browser with a built in ad blocker. Originally, when TLF started and I joined, I turned the blocking off for TLF. But then I found ads that were fakes and scams and it seemed nothing could be done about it. So I solved the matter myself by turning ad blocking back on for TLF.

A lot of ads these days are based on your browsing history, which can lead to amusing ads
I belong to a BMW forum and it caused hilarity when a menber complained about ad for another brand of car he was being served up

I paid a 30 quid 'donation' and no longer see any ads on TLF. Worth every penny.

Re: Another scam ad perhaps?
I don't really know. It won't be free to host a site. At some stage I understand someone's services were enlisted to make some improvements, doubt (s)he did it for free (but maybe). There was a change of server at some stage because the preceding one wasn't up to it. I imagine that involved some cost. Also the number of Fools that donate is minuscule¹ compared to the number of users.Mike4 wrote:But is this really the case?
I presume the accounts of the legal entity are published in the appropriate place.
Cheers,

Re: Another scam ad perhaps?
I have an adblocker.
But I still donate.
And why not for this site above all non-commercial sites... in addition to being a good community, this site or rather the community it hosts, actually makes me money.
And I donate to other forums which are useful to me.
It's not always about the money, it's a token of appreciation.
And I donate to Wikipedia because that's useful as well and if everyone freeloads it will vanish.
Think of it as standing your round.

Yes I like that. I donate here and to Wikipedia for the same reasons. C.88V8 wrote:I have an adblocker.

Re: Another scam ad perhaps?
Great posts
I don't watch ads on TV (Netflix and Prime don't have them) and anything terrestrial tv is taped and the fast foward button comes in to play when an advert arrives, so I don't feel the need to see them on the Internet either
and don't get me started on branded clothes I asked someone once if Nike were paying him to have that big tick on his T shirt, well why not, he is advertising them
