Thanks not being allowed on certain boards

Is there any reason why it is not possible to thank posts on the "Economy" and "Meaning of Life" boards ?

I know they were once all under Polite Discussions which once banned such thanks as it contained the political discussions board. However that was changed some time ago and you can still thank posts on the "Current Affairs and News" board.

In answer to your question, I am not active on those boards so don't know whether that would have a positive or negative impact, but a good question to ask. I'll chat with the Mods to see what they think. Each board on its own merit. BTW The Meaning of Life board is still in the same debate group that it has always been in.

I think The Economy, since being moved away from Polite Discussions, and now on Investor's Roundtable, should have the ability for Thanks (like all other Boards there).

There was a very good post on VAT the other day that deserved a thumbs up.

Otoh economics does tend to morph into politics and people getting agitated.
But I would be happy to see the Thanks restored at least provisionally.

Well thanks are allowed on the Current Affairs board, where politics are discussed all the time, so I can't really see why they're disallowed elsewhere.

Thanks for that. That just leaves, as far as I can see, the "Meaning of Life" board as the only one you can't thank posters on.

I've left that one for now because it is still in the Polite Discussions group. Although 'thanks' are a positive thing in general, they can be misused where people play to the gallery or try to demonstrate that they have more support than their 'opponent' in an argument.

I've left that one for now because it is still in the Polite Discussions group. Although 'thanks' are a positive thing in general, they can be misused where people play to the gallery or try to demonstrate that they have more support than their 'opponent' in an argument.

But the other board in that group, Current Affairs & News, isn't restricted in that way (i.e. posts can be liked).

Yes, I saw the site maintenance message. Looks like Thanks are now missing everywhere. I think there was also a setting to receive notifications for thanks at User Control Panel / Board Preferences / Notification Options but that now seems to be missing
