A diet to help you lose that excess wealth

An excellent illustration of the fact that the most expensive does not always mean the best – https://homeaddict.io/ranking-the-most- ... the-world/

Some of the examples really shouldn't have been included, for example the `Bear Extraordinaire', 80% of its price consisting of the bowl in which it's served. Likewise the $5,000 burger, which includes a bottle of 1995 Petrus – not one of the best years, but worth rather more than even the most exotic of burgers!

Many of the examples seem to be a case of just throwing random expensive ingredients together, irrespective of whether the result is something that actually tastes good - and any food with gold leaf is an abomination by definition (the idiotic Salt Bae has a lot to answer for).

But I must admit that my mouth was watering at some of the items – Iberico ham is one of my favourite foods, and the other one that really piqued my interest was the La Bonnotte potatoes, which I must admit I'd never heard of. I’m a great fan of the humble potato, and eagerly look forward to the annual crop of Jersey Royals.

Having done a bit of digging (pun fully intended) they seem to be available at far less than the quoted $500 per kilo, and I’m now determined to get hold of some and try them for myself. Have any other Fools tried them?

Likewise. Try also Sainsbury's Vivaldi

I'm sure there's some outstanding (rare) UK potatoes.

Here's more info about the Bonnotte de Noirmoutier potatoes (in French):

I should bloody well hope so. That works out to £175 per pound or over £10 an ounce! Silver is currently about £27 an ounce.

How good can a spud be?

Lidl has one called Alexandra that's rather decent in that small boiling spud niche. Available round the year, though quality does vary by season.

Alexandra was of course the other half of another great spud, King Edward.

But I note saffron in the list. Which begs another comment: an ingredient you use in small traces to add flavour to other things is more affordable than one like spuds that serves to bulk out a meal! Hence also expensive ingredients like vanilla.

Sainsbury's have just this week started to stock Anya potatoes - small Norfolk 'salad' potatoes that, if last year's crop is anything to go by, are excellent

And.....

Yesterday purchased seven fat sticks of Wye valley asparagus from M&S for £5. I know £17 a kilo is a bit much but they were delicious.

I am hoping the weather stays fair to give untold gluts of the tasty sticks in the next few weeks.

By the way, I'm a fan of Jersey Royals too. Let's face it really nice food is to be enjoyed and loved.

Paul
