I would never start the day without a decent breakfast.
But I believe some start their day with a coffee.
Here's a (small) study which indicates that it's a bad idea, as coffee on an empty stomach impairs one's ability to metabolise sugar.

Perhaps another causation in the cascade of T2 diabetes?

Re: Coffee, breakfast. Breakfast, coffee
So where's the sugar coming from if they're not eating? Presumably that'll be down to milk in the coffee?
Which kind-of begs the question of the sugar-rich but light non-filling breakfast taken with coffee. For example, a croissant, a fruit, or a small portion of cereal. And am I any better off with tea than coffee?

Anyone who has lived in France will realise that the coffee/croissant mix does not lead to obesity. Also, in this single study, n=29, so not exactly definitive.
So yeah, you can take my coffee from my cold, dead, diabetic hands.
