If you can't go to the restaurant ...

... bring the restaurant to you.

We used to be quite regular customers at the Northcote, a local restaurant that produces some excellent food, and we've missed those outings. But I recently saw a piece in The Guardian about them doing posh takeaways - https://www.theguardian.com/food/2020/n ... ant-review

The winter menu looked brilliant - https://www.northcote.com/product/new-w ... h-january/ - and they've been doing them since the New Year, but two previous attempts to place an order for 15 January and then 22 January failed, with the website crashing as soon as the orders were released.

I spoke to them, and they advised me that they were releasing the orders for 29 January and 5 February at noon today. I was therefore poised over my PC at 11:55, and I was delighted to be able to place an order for 29 January ... until I went to the checkout page, inserted my payment details and ... `Error 504 Gateway Timeout'.

I was bitterly disappointed, but their phone was constantly engaged (presumably by other frustrated customers) so I emailed them to ask if there was any alternative way of securing an order.

But then a minor miracle - an automatic email confirming that my order had been accepted and that the order would be delivered on 29 January, happy day!

I know it's expensive for two people, but we've saved many times that amount by not having gone to any restaurants for months, and it'll be a real treat to have high quality restaurant food for a change.

I now have the immensely enjoyable task of visiting the excellent Byrnes to choose some appropriate accompaniments - https://dbyrne-finewines.co.uk/

I'm looking forward to 29 January! :D

And so you should. I managed to get an order in at the beginning of December before Jay Rayner queered the pitch. It was really good. Haven't been in Byrnes in donkeys. Are they allowed to be open at the moment?

P.S. Simon Rogan at home is also good, but ( on a sample of one ) expects a bit more effort to finish the food. https://simonroganathome.co.uk/our-three-course-meals

Yes, I'm pleased to say that they're open as normal - I think they're probably classed as an off-licence, which (quite rightly!) are classed as essential suppliers for the purposes of the lockdown.

Incidentally, thanks for the Simon Rogan link - they definitely look to be worth a try.

Brother had a fancy restaurant meal delivered. Heat at home.
Twenty unlabelled pots of this n' that - she is a veggie he is not - it took quite some sorting and cooking.
Still, gives one an appetite, I guess :)

Or you could install a robo kitchen to cook for you https://newatlas.com/robotics/moley-rob ... en-launch/
Just lob $340,000 at Moley and they'll pop round and fit one for you.

From the comments Going to suck for customers on the day when Moley takes their server down and all their installations become useless. I have a much smaller investment in smart light switches, and I'm waiting for the day when Leviton stops supporting them and I can no longer turn my lights on anymore. All of the smart-things will be obsoleted at some point.

Considering the behaviour of television manufacturers, he may have a point.
