Dod asked,

Surely you are not suggesting adding the fish and prawns in their frozen state are you? You need to defrost them first or is that taken as a given?

Sorry, Dod. Yes I am. In the fish pie mix the fish is in small 1/2 inch chunks and frozen prawns are roughly the same size. By the time you have mixed this into the hot sauce it is semi-defrosted anyway. I do use, however, a shallow dish in the oven and use a probe at the end to check the internal temperature. It's never failed in 20 years and I'm still here.

No doubt I'll now be told I'm doing something heinous. Anyway the first bite normally confirms it is hot through. I store the fish pie mix in my fridge freezer so I suppose if I were using a freezer with a super low temperature I might cook it for, say, an extra 5 minutes.
