Perfect French baguette in 5 minutes

#616718

Postby Fluke » September 23rd, 2023, 8:54 am

Continuing the bread theme, I came across this short video recently, I've done it twice now and it comes out exactly as described. I quarter the ingredients to get one baguette. What a way to start the day.

Wow that looks amazing I must try a sourdough version. I have some dough proving now I will try this shaping method (or no shaping method) and see what happens!

Fantastic vid, thanks. I will try this!

Slightly misleading title though, given one of the steps is "Cover and leave to rise for 8 to 10 hours" :)

And another is to stick them in the oven for 25 minutes. :D

Should really be '5 minutes of effort' I guess. But it looks great. I have passed the instruction video on to the missus:-)

Even the video showing how to do it is 6 mins 26 seconds long!

(And that's with all the ingrediments pre-measured.)

I doubt the video would have got the hits had it been titled "Perfect French baguette in 10 hours 45 minutes" though.

Maybe I should start a new website. Nit-pickers-R-us dot com. :)

It does look great, but of course promises the impossible.

Seriously even had you timed things right and somehow put the bread in the oven before you got up for breakfast, you still need to allow a bit of time for the bread to cool, developing it's flavor.

What I like though is how he manages the baguette's without using a lame to score them.
I'd be happy to produce something like he shows.

Just to add some balance and highlight how quick a method the link in the OP really is, here is another YouTube video showing how to make baguettes.

I'm sure they will turn out very well too, but WHAT a staggering amount of messing about in comparison!!

I shall be asking the mods to pack some of you lot off to pedants corner at this rate. It really is only 5 minutes of effort all in - stand on chair > get bread flour down > pour 250g into bowl on scales > salt > stir > yeast > stir > water > stir with handle of wooden spoon > cover > leave. Next morning while oven is preheating > lightly flour tray > scrape dough onto tray > gingerly tease up into hands > twist > pull > plonk > into the oven. No mess! Make cup of tea take out when ready. Leave to cool.

Impressed some posh friends with it yesterday on their deck overlooking the Thames.

Oh don't forget to flour the top before picking, twisting and plonking.
