Successor to Digital Look's Watchlist??

Given that DL seems to be gradually reducing its availability and moving to webcfg (and/or sharecast), I'm looking for a new home for my watchlist. I've had a quick look round Morningstar and TIM, and they both seem to want you to set up *Portfolios* with costs and allocations and proporations. All I want is an equivalent to DL's watchlist where you can have a list of items (shares, investment trusts, indices, commodities, exchange rates) with their values/prices. And possibly the ability to click on to any item and drill down into its data. I can't seem to get this. What am I missing? Where would be the best place to do this.

TIA

I take it you know how to continue to access your DL watchlist for now? Go to http://finance.digitallook.com/ and click the Login button, top right.

For the day when my DL Portfolio ceases to exist, I have already set up a parallel portfolio on FT.com. They have Watchlists available too.

Free registration is required.

However, there seems to be some sort of watchlist on Morningstar.

I switched to This is Money, which seems to offer everything that DL does. But your on-line broker has a watch list, surely? But perhaps the broker's info is not as full as DL's?

Thanks for the info.
Yes, i've discovered your point about using the login button top right to get to data, seen elsewhere in one of your posts on another of the DL threads, for which thanks: enabled me to save a copy of my data in case it all disappears.
Thanks for the tip on ft.com: I'll go and have a look.

Is there an easy way to migrate the portfolio data from DL to another platform (i.e. without manually coming it all across)? I've used it to record all of my trades over many years.

No, DL has no export function. You can however copy and paste from the DL pages into a spreadsheet. I find that particularly useful for the Portfolio and Statement pages. This forum doesn't allow posting images, but I posted a demo animation that shows how it's done on the 'Brokers and Share Dealing' forum which does....

Breelander wrote:...it is the only available method of getting a record of your DL Portfolio holdings or the transaction Statement into a spreadsheet form. Without that you would find it difficult to recreate your holdings in any another portfolio manager.

The Portfolio can be selected, copied, then pasted into a spreadsheet with 'paste special' (in Excel use 'match destination format', or in LibreOffice paste as unformatted text, tab delimited). The Portfolio will require a little tidying up after pasting into a spreadsheet. You will need to adjust column widths and there are a few unwanted bits to clear. But no tidying up will be required for the Statement apart for column widths.

Here's a demo I made of one of my dummy portfolios, click on it to view full screen...

You will need to recreate formulae for the pasted data if you intend to use it to record changes.

Does anybody know if it's still possible to access the old Digital Look platform data?

No, not in the slightest...

502 Bad Gateway
nginx

Yes, that's what I get with all of the links I've tried, was hoping someone might have an alternative link that works, unless the old site has been taken down completely.

I'm afraid that the 502 error mean that the server you are connecting to cannot itself connect to the actual server that runs the database. In all likelihood it's been turned off for good.

The 502 Bad Gateway error is an HTTP status code that means that one server on the internet received an invalid response from another server....

...Bad Gateway errors are often caused by issues between online servers that you have no control over...

I've just tried to log on and my details come up but when I click on portfolio Sharecast comes up with another request for user name and p.w. (which I've just noticed says using facebook or google) and they don't seem to be accepted, probably because I was using Microsoft Edge .

Did you have to log into Sharecast as well, Bree?

(Edited several times!)

No, signing in to Sharecast is of no use whatsoever.

Sounds like you are not properly signed in before you click Portfolio. There is only one way to successfully sign in, and it works in all browsers I've tried including Edge. Only when you are signed in and it says "Welcome Boulversee, you are logged in" at the top right is it safe to click on Portfolio. (sorry we aren't allowed to post images on this board, but we can post links to them.)

How to sign in: https://i.imgur.com/mfhpjVj.png

If you click Portfolio too soon, or try any other way to sign in you'll see a different sign in box, which will take you to the chocolate teapot Sharecast instead. If you see this one, start over afresh and click the Login button.

Never use this one: https://i.imgur.com/aiZELiJ.png

Many thanks. I'll have another go but it was telling me I was logged in and all my details came up. I started off by using your link to https://finance.digitallook.com. but I can't remember which imgur thing came up. May have been the one you said not to use. How does one get the right one. I can't tell you how difficult and stressful I find all this stuff.

I seem to have made it this time, thanks. I haven't checked whether all the p/f details are correct yet, however. I think I might have started the password with lower case rather than capital last time but it definitely told me I was logged on at one point.

I can understand your frustration, but we're still in lockdown so a house-call is out of the question ;)

The only way to get the right one is to make sure you are going to the finance.digitallook.com site, and that you click the Login button at top right. You will know that you have signed in successfully when it says "Welcome Boulversee, you are logged in" at the top right and the blue button now says 'Logout'.

... all my details came up...

That bit puzzles me. You should still see the home page after you sign in. Did you accidentally click on 'My Account'?

I may have done. It won't say welcome, Bouleversee, however, as I use a different password for everything (have to write them down in a little book).
All's well that ends well and it's past my bedtime, especially as the clocks go forward tomorrow.

Would there be any point in adding another portfolio (my grandchildren's holdings) to the DL site? I've just spent at least half an hour totting up current prices and values (rather disappointing) and it would be nice to get an instant valuation

I really can't say. To be honest, I never expected to see it again this long after it went AWOL, I just kept clicking my link at the end of the day for old times sake.

If it lasts for a week, maybe it's back... for a month? then possibly.... but I'm not counting on it - I'll keep my FT portfolio running in parallel ;)
