I also tried the vanilla (BP only) option. It won't run on this either.

Sorry to hear that. I just tried and it's working fine for me.

What operating system and which version of Excel?

Let's concentrate on the freshly-downloaded BP-only version of 11.72.

When you click the "Get Yahoo Prices" button, what do you get for the price for BP in cell E6?
What do you get in cells A2 and B2 in the "FTSE-HYP Tracking" sheet?

The values for FY, Cover and PE should be unchanged at 6.6%, 1,3 and 11.8. These are only updated if you click on the "Get Sharecast Forecast Yields" button, and are independent of the price update

As a work-around, if we fill the price & FY fields by hand (eg from the stepone data) will the topup scoring/fields rearrange themselves appropriately?

I think they should do

My final potential 'work around' (which I am reluctant to do as I may not have the required life expectancy!) is to bring an old computer in from the garage which I put Ubuntu on and try to run the Unix version ('b-m')…

No need for that. You can run LibreOffice on your Windows PC, no need for Ubuntu. I suggest the Portable version from https://portableapps.com/apps/office/li ... e_portable which will run HYPTUSS version b-m quite happily.

Let me know how you get on

Thanks kiloran

I am using my work laptop which has some added security features. I wonder if those are causing the problem(s)?

Looks like Excel 2007
Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 1909

Re: 'When you click the "Get Yahoo Prices" button, what do you get for the price for BP in cell E6?' cell is empty
and 'What do you get in cells A2 and B2 in the "FTSE-HYP Tracking" sheet?' more empty cells

I can't access the weebly site (or the https://portableapps.com/apps/office/li ... e_portable site) directly as they are blocked. (& I don't have 'admin permissions' for this laptop.)

What I do is email the spreadsheet to myself having download it on a mac ( doesn't seem to work on the mac version of office either). Maybe something is 'lost in translation'?

I also have 2 windows tablets but those don't seem to have the computer power to run the macros. Do you think either of those (or the mac) might run the LibreOffice version?

Thanks again
buffer

PS the excel version did work on the work laptop a few years (& versions) ago.

It's beginning to look that way

A works laptop with Excel 2007??? Support for that ended 3 years ago. I have Excel 2010 and support for that will end in a few months. However, I don't think Excel 2007 is the cause of your problem.

That strongly suggests that your laptop is the problem. HYPTUSS gets its price data from https://query1.finance.yahoo.com/v7/fin ... mbols=BP.l
What happens if you click on that link? You should get:

Code: Select all

The Excel version of HYPTUSS requires ActiveX capability. This is not supported by Apple Macs

I have no knowledge of Windows tablets. The Mac will run LibreOffice, and I'm sure I remember some Mac users using HYPTUSS with LibreOffice quite happily.

Thanks kiloran
I think I'll abandon using the laptop and try the mac instead.
( When I click on that link I get very similar (but non-identical numbers) coding BTW.)
I'll only come back again if it fails on both the mac and my old (garaged) computer!
Thanks again

I have joined them! We got it working that way.

Many thanks for the pointers kiloran : saved a few hours of frustration there I think.
