digitallook orphans looking for a new home

#371458

Postby yorkshirelad1 » December 30th, 2020, 10:16 pm

digitallook has finally bitten the dust (after promising to do so for a couple of years, and I've hung on far too long, but it suited my purposes).
So, probably like a few people, I'm looking for a new home for my shares etc.
I really did like DL's watchlist (shares, UT/IT, indicies, commodities, gilts), and the performance tables/heat maps and yearly comparisons. Is there anything (free) to better it?

What are people's recommendations for a successor. A bit of research on here and other places suggests possible candidates:
  • ft.com
  • lse
  • trustnet
  • advfn
I've reviewed the list at http://lemonfoolfinancialsoftware.weebly.com/financial-data-web-sites.html

What are people's views of the above and/or alternatives.

I'm thinking I might finally have to bite the bullet for something paid like stockopedia, but that would involve another beauty parade. I think I may have been spoilt for too long fro free at DL.

TIA
YL

This question keeps cropping up, the last time on TLF was 2016, when I referred back to a 2015 post of mine on TMF...

This question comes up time and again. This is what I said back on TMF last time it was asked:

breelander (on TMF) wrote:...A while back there was a request on 'Ask a Foolish Question' for suggested alternatives to the Moneyextra portfolio which was closing down. https://web.archive.org/web/20161115151 ... sort=whole

After some research, these seemed to me to be the best free (registration required) alternatives...
Financial Times: https://help.ft.com/faq/portfolio-queri ... olio-tool/
Morningstar: https://www.morningstar.co.uk/uk/portfo ... folio.aspx

I've been happily tracking my HYP in a DigitalLook portfolio for years, but when investigating alternatives for the 'Ask a Foolish Question' thread I duplicated my HYP in the FT portfolio. Both seem to work well. The Morningstar one looks good too, but I didn't test it out. Much more discussion on the pros and cons in the archived AaFQ thread linked to above.

(nb: links in the above quote needed updating)

I see nothing to change my opinion, both Morningstar and FT are good portfolios IMHO. My FT.com Portfolio was set up in 2015, mainly to review it for the 'Ask a Foolish Question' thread. Luckily I've maintained it in parallel with my (now defunct) DL one ever since.

PS: The FT hide their free registration here: https://www.ft.com/register

I was a Digital Look user, but quit with them about 5 years ago.

I've got a google spreadsheet for tracking valuations of portfolios and watchlists.

For more in depth research work, I now have subscriptions to Stockopedia and Sharepad, but the Stockopedia sub will not be renewed when it expires. Sharepad is excellent.

Koyfin looks like a very interesting free option.
