Just had a camping video interrupted by an ad telling us "How to Express Your Dog's Anal Glands at Home"
Luckily I wasn't eating at the time

Was your dog camping it up a bit?
Sorry, you lost me. I've never had a youtube video interrupted (unless by something external, like the phone).

Re: YouTube ads hit new low
An ad? Where's the commercial gain from information like that?
Oh hang on, I get it. It's one of those caring sharing feelgood bank adverts, specially designed to make us feel "safe" and "included" during these dark days of existential uncertainty.
Oh well, I suppose it beats the repeats of Britain's Got Talent?

Some 'monetised' YouTube channels have 'ad breaks' in addition to static ads

Re: YouTube ads hit new low
Even so, what exactly was the advert trying to sell you? Having seen the vet do it once as a child, I'm pretty sure no equipment was involved other than (probably) gloves.
Actually no don't tell me, I don't really want to think about it that much...

Presumably there's a YouTube advertising algorithm that associates camping types with those who like to DIY their Dog's Anal Glands, I wouldn't take it personally.

Re: YouTube ads hit new low
Advertising rates have taken a real dive due to corona virus. So much so that Google have removed the control which allows webmasters to set a minimum price and filter out the worst/cheapest dregs of the advertising market.
Cheap ads, which are able to inject javascript are also the #1 vector for infecting machines with computer viruses. For just a few dollars miscreants can infect hundreds of PCs.
Which is to say that 2020 is a very good year to be running an ad blocker, and probably also to dump GOOG I think they will have a horrible year unless the economy does a swift recovery.
