British newsreaders have been instructed to pronounce oh-Macron, but can't quite bring themselves to go all the way.

I guess they missed out Xi for a similar reason.

Lol, reminds me of a mate of mine who pronounces the word "poppadom", "pompadom" in Indian restaurants and has done so for many years.

He will have none of it should anyone try to explain or correct him!

I hope it doesn't mean anything rude.

If he goes to Spain and wants chicken, make sure he asks for "pollo" and not "polla" unless he would be equally happy with penis.

The mispronunciation causes much merriment behind the counter in the local supermercado here in Las Canarias.

Suggestion alternatives:

Jab 1
Jab 2
Jab 3
Jab 4
Jab 5

Booster 1
Booster 2
Booster 3
Booster 4
Booster 5

That way the names could become collectibles, keep some people amused for years. Rarities would become sought after and go up in value.

I saw this somewhere and thought it quite apt.

Omicron is an anagram of Moronic. As in "it is moronic that we are still dealing with Covid".

"Omicron" is Greek for small ( short ) "o" , as opposed to "Omega" for big ( long )"o".

And almost every time I hear a newsreader pronounce it with the long "O", I initially mis-hear it as them saying "Oh my God"!

I hear you. Still too many vested interests into ripping off taxpayers and central banks. I felt last year we will be dealing with Covid for most of the decade. Just my 2p.

Which reminds me.
