Call me a miserable git, but for some reason the word "liked" isn't at the top of my mind. :|

Remarkable all the same, though.

Yes I apologize for using 'like' in view of the potentially catastrophic consequences, and the likely injuries to the drivers involved. But the way the white car slowly arrived from offstage right, up to the lights, with the black car balanced on its bonnet, raised a smile.

Point very much taken. :) Just imagine what it would have cost a film company to shoot that sequence?

Ah, but that's just the eastern side. The forecast for Ben Nevis is dry with some sun. Get your bikini out

Daugher No 2 came back from a lunchtime performance with her school band yesterday

Everything went well, concert was a success but she came back without the tip for the pickup selector on her Gretsch (late 90's Electromatic Sparkle Jet in Blue that she saved up for a couple of years back)

This "tip" is a little screw on cap: 7.1mm diameter 10.1 mm long with a 3.5mm metric thread weighs a few grammes

No worries I thought this is (partly) why they created the internet

I found the required part quickly here: https://www.guitarpartsresource.com/gretsch_switchtips.htm

Checked the price - 4.99 USD that looks great
- click through with Paypal and they've bloody added 59.95 of their American Dollars for postage
- oooh I thought, I'm not having that - twelve times the cost of the item to have it put in an envelope, licked, stamped and dropped in a letter box

Other places are less silly but still in the realms of "you're having a laugh"

I think I'll buy a nice bit of rod, and a metric tap and die set and start making them myself

Not that I'd want to stop a man tapping a length of rod.

4 squid Is this it?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/393414171270?

Large diameter is 7.2mm overall height is 10.5mm
This is available in Chrome, Gold or Nickle

3.5mm Metric thread
Screw fixing

Thanks
- i needed it posted to OZ tho as that's where we are (and they're quoting 12 quid for that)
- we unfortunately don't seem to have any local stockists of the part (can get the guitars fine - but stripping one for parts seems overkill, tempting but overkill)

That said I might get a couple sent to the family back home and they can put them in with whatever they next need to send

I'm trying to find a single Fender bridge saddle for my (Squier 90s MIJ) Strat. It boinged off somewhere, gone forever down the guitar parts wormhole
No I don't want to buy six Fender, thanks very much
I have also lost the black plastic tip from the pickup selector, oddly enough

Seriously, how do you guys put up with this? I am mostly in London and Devon and they are too damn cold.

OK, as a kid I would go swimming in the North Sea and think nothing of it. But now I won't go in a swimming pool that isn't 25 degrees.

I have been in Minnesota and Chicago in the winter but I swear to God the coldest I have ever been was first footing in Aberdeenshire. You guys are insane.

I guess that is why I can't go anywhere overseas without encountering at least one Scot escaping the climate.

Aye well those tips are designed to fall off - push fit nonsense!

If the saddle's are the bent steel Fender stamped one's you're probably out of luck getting them individually
well that's if you want new... there'll be a box in every guitar repair workshop because it's one of the simplest things you can upgrade

If it's plain steel then I reckon Gotoh will sell them singly

If it were me I'd upgrade to ones where the grubs aren't exposed
then upgrade the trem to a Wilkinson with a much heavier block
- then have it stolen :(

I guess the forecast I quoted was a little bit misleading, being for the top of Braeriach in the Cairngorms, at 1296m the third highest mountain in Britain.

I was going to try Dawson's (big music shop in Reading) but they've shut permanently! I'm possibly in London tomorrow, so may divert down Charing Cross Rd/Denmark St

Denmark Street seems to be your best bet

I know it well... that area combines guitars and second-hand books, so I was a frequent visitor.
Less so now I live way out west (and Covid has put a damper on trips too)

It's a great area, many a happy hour spent browsing. I also used to meet up with visiting friends in the Marquis of Granby (bottom end, near St Martins-in-the Fields) as a pleasant alternative to Leicester Sq./Covent Garden tourist hell

I would make a pilgrimage to Macaris whenever I was in London
The absolute real deal of what a music shop should be
I hope it's still there
