Graham probably will get time served in custody - whilst his mate a ducking in the local pond.

I know some here would prefer a Wicker Man denouement.

I know they shouldn’t have cut the tree down, but the country has gone mad over a Sycamore!! For God's sake, the worst of all trees. Not even a native, and not attractive.

Yes, I am not a fan of ashes or sycamores, their saplings infest my garden. However it was in a pretty location nestled between two banks, presumably to protect it from the wind in an otherwise bleak landscape where there are not many trees and right next to Hadrian's wall. I can see why it became a nice spot for a picnic or a shag.

Go on then, what's so bad about a sycamore then? So what if its an invading species? They look nice to me and I loved those 'helicopter' seeds as a brat.

The Sycamore has almost no landscape nor wildlife diversity value. Native trees would have been much better in that position.

Talking of position, it would only have been a matter of time before HSE would have required the felling of the tree as its roots would have undermined Hadrian's Wall and it would have been at risk of naturally toppling onto the Wall and damaging it.

But it wasn't up to a couple of scrotes to determine the future of that tree, so whatever one might think about it, they were still in the wrong, well in the wrong.

Did I ever say or imply they were right to cut the tree down?........No, I did not. I just said the public has been whipped up into a frenzy of indignation, presumably because the government and others wish to distract us from more important things that they don't want us to notice. Let's face it, the police turn a blind eye to a lot of other things which are illegal, but they seem to have no interest in combatting.

They cut down a tree. So what. Happens all the time.

McCarthy and Stone cut down a shed load of trees near to where I lived in the UK and simply paid the TPO fines for doing so.

We shouldn't be encouraging one rule for one and one rule for another just because of what or where the tree was.

True.
It's not like it was a tourist attraction, or anything special?

If we're going to go down that route, can I remind us all that the sycamore was felled in the night of 28th September 2023?

So let me see, which government was it that was trying to distract us from more important things that they didn't want us to notice? ;)

It's nothing about the tree really, is it. It's more about scrotes seeking notoriety, infamy or likes on social meedya, be it from cutting down trees to shooting classroom's full of kids. As a member of the public I don't think I've ever been whipped up into a frenzy. What do you think I am, a Daily Mail reader or something ?

I find it hard to believe there isn't something about which you might be whipped into a frenzy about. Losing the winter fuel allowance? Given a short measure in a pub? Being cut up dangerously on the motorway? Having every main road (bar one) into the town simultaneously blocked by road closures and temporary traffic lights (my problem at present)?

That's a list of things which fail to pull any of my levers, and I daresay I'm far from alone.

We have a board right here on Lemonfool for grumps about what really annoys us. If you want to find what exercises a poster in this context, perhaps look at whether they've posted there? I did, just this evening ...
