Extreme jealousy doesn't even begin to represent my emotions, Snorvey.

The nearest to that was back in 1977-ish. On the eve of the summer solstice, a bunch of us met at a pub in Kinnesswood (or was it Scotlandwell?) in Fife. Suitably lubricated when the pub closed, we walked overnight up Bishop Hill, then to West Lomond hill (a mere 522m), and then to East Lomond hill, planning to arrive at East Lomond for the sunrise. We got there, but a miserable cloudy day so little sign of the sun. Then down the hill to a friend's house in Falkland for a big fry-up.

We were off in Yorkshire last week - on holiday with grandson and his parents. It was hot - especially for my OH who was born in Caithness. We were walking through Dalby forest - looking for shade, and came across this statue of LumberJills - members of the Women's Timber Corps in WW2

Image

Its a good bit more light hearted than the Lumber Jill statue at Aberfoyle which I published previously :)

At Sanna Bay in Ardnamurchan today, almost as far west as you can get in the UK.

Inspired by Snorvey's photos, I've decided I really must get my head round this posting photos lark. Having spent a few days in/on Mull, I'm now in the Cairngorms and have loads of photos on my phone. The scenery is spectacular! Definitely a task for my return to the overcrowded south.

To some of us sassenachs, that sounds like whisky. And plenty more references in the narrative.

Perhaps for the armchair albaphiles among us, you might consider adding a note about whether and how your walk and pics relate to the distilleries?

The names I mention have the famous distilleries located there. Glenfiddich for example is located in Dufftown, a couple of miles up the road from the estate grounds.

That was the question (the other curiosity being the relation of the bogwater implied in the photos to what we see in our supermarkets). I'm familiar with the general background, and that Speyside is a (if not the) major whisky producing area.

FWIW, many years ago, and before I discovered the Islay taste, Glenfiddich was my first single malt. Followed by Glenmorangie, which all the women in my life at the time seemed to prefer but I didn't.

Snorvey wrote:The highlight (if you can call it that), was an unusual find. A bullet casing. I'm used to finding spent shotgun cartridges...but bullet casings? 1st time ever. I can't imagine folk shooting deer up there (although there was evidence of deer). I can't imagine the power company would be too happy at that, so maybe it fell out of someones pocket. Still, it's mine now.

Looks like a .275 cartidge, considered a classic deer-hunting load.

I was going to post this in the `Queen is Dead' thread, but somewhat to my surprise it's been locked (and the spelling of her name's been changed as well - I suspect it's the work of a sinister revolutionary! ;) )

Anyway, I was in London yesterday, and nearly all of the large shops were closed, many with photos of the Queen in the windows. I particularly liked this one, which (I'm sure unintentionally) echoed Princess Di's nickname for HM ...

Pretty place. Will be great when global warming comes along and we can put some hotels up there with beach umbrellas and some jet skis!

Might need something better than a 30 mile long single track road with passing places then.

Could always upgrade it to a motorway. Maybe with a bridge crossing to Northern Ireland at the same time?
