Quite so. We've all been obsessed with coronaviruses for the last two years, but antibiotic resistance is a huge problem that scientists have been warning on for years. A ticking timebomb, and harder to contain than by just locking us all up (viz. rat bourne plague).

This makes me go "oooh" or even "Aaargh!"

Which bit? The dangling, or the posing as a "worker"?

We live in a pothole-ridden society, but.......
Last week, I reported a pothole outside my house (in a quiet suburban street) on the fixmystreet website, who forwarded it to the local council. The next day, the council sent someone round to mark the pothole with white spray paint, and the following day the workmen came and repaired the pothole, to a reasonable standard rather then a temporary bodge.

Now if that doesn't make you go oooh.....

Do you not perhaps wonder who (or whose important friend/family) happens to live nearby, among councillors and/or council officers with the power to make things happen?

I wish I could agree. I've generally found responses to be quite slow. A major road junction a few miles away in south Glasgow has been reported by people more times than I can count over the past year, it would make an excellent substitute for the lunar surface. I guess the response depends on the local council.

I think you're right
I don't often sing the praises of Barnet
but a few years ago it (the blocked drain outside my house which could flood my front room) was still showing on Fix my street
and they (Barnet council) emailed me to ask "how well did we do"
I replied with a few well chosen words
and lo and behold they were outside the house at 5.30am the next morning fixing it
(That MUST be some sort of record)

That but also "a major road junction" is always going to be a more complicated job than one that needs 2 men for an hour to patch a pothole on a side road. It may not even be the council's responsibility but the DoT (or Holyrood??), it may be part of a long-term plan where they're going to replace gas mains etc and then resurface it, you never quite know.

Although council budgets for this sort of thing are under huge pressure, I must admit that I've always had great results from Fixmystreet, for flytipping, streetlight outages, grafitti and potholes.

Having shaken off 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road' by Elton John (I don't even like his music), I have now inherited 'Ocean Man' by a band called Ween. It's catchy, but it annoys me. So I just thought I'd spread the love with you guys.

I even fall asleep with this playing in my head. On the brightside, it distracts me from the Tinnitus :-)

I've developed tinnitus over the past month or so - very annoying!
For some reason 'Funeral Pyre' by the Jam has been running as an earworm loop for some time

A few years ago, I had Rolf Harris's Jake the Peg running around in my brain for a week or so. God knows what triggered that, I hate it.

My GP recommended Earkalm spray (otc) and I've been taking Vit B12 for a while. Both seem to help a lot.

I coincidentally bought some B vitamins last weekend (good for hangovers)
I will check out Rearkalm.... erm Earkalm
(I genuinely mistyped that, would have ended up with Imodium I guess)
