I normally ask people to substitute the term "polystyrene hat" for "cycle helmet" to see if it affects their perception.
And that's as someone who wears a polystyrene hat for hours every week.

A plane skims over tourists' heads in what is believed to be the lowest ever landing at Skiathos Alexandros Papadiamantis Airport in the Aegean Sea.

The Wizz Air-operated Airbus jet swooped so low on its approach to the runway that dust and sand was kicked up into the air.

One girl watching from below toppled over backwards and a woman lost her hat in the powerful gust. The clip was posted online by an aviation enthusiast who has more than half a million followers on YouTube.

He said it was likely to be the closest a plane has ever flown to the ground while landing at the airport. In 2013, an Air Italy plane dropped very low just before reaching the same runway, but this is thought to be a new record.

The approach into St Maarten is very low and you can find vids of that and it blasting onlookers along on their backs. I googled it, first came up this clip of a jumbo taking off from there vs onlookers with similar kind of result.

There was a road over the end of the Wick Drome runway - until a foreign visitor parked his car on the runway to get a good photo of the aircraft landing, So the road was fenced off - and there is now a detour to the lighthouse. More significantly, the fence prevented learner drivers practicing initial driving skills on the runway in the evenings.

The approach through the skyscrapers to Hong Kong's old Kai Tak Airport has to be a front runner when it comes hair-raising passenger experiences. I doubt anyone who's done it will ever forget the experience. I landed there four occasions with Qantas in the 80s, and on every approach fervently wished I believed in some sort of god.

I was thinking in terms of being in an apartment block with wingtips coming very close to your window. I worked in an office on an RAF Station where the approaching aircraft came straight at you. In that case most were Harvards, but they also brought in Lancasters and the like for scrapping. One tended to pray that nobody was going to have an engine failure at about 200 feet.
