It doesn't look overhyped if you look at the situation in Italy. We are in the early stages compared to them. The number of deaths over there indicates their number of infections is greatly underestimated.

I'm not sure if 'panic buying' was panic or sensible preparation.

I rather liked the Metro newspaper's slightly naughty headline about how Nadine Dorries attended a Cabinet meeting last week while harbouring what would eventually turn out to be coronavirus:

"PM: I did not go near her"

And below: "Johnson won't take test". Tell that to your fiance, Boris. I expect she'll be hearing that line again before too long.

Barbecues are shite and in that respect COVID19 has been a blessing. I think if I HAD to go to one (where even playing the C-Card had failed) I'd just bring a packed lunch and a flask of tea.

You're right.
The only thing I like about them is al fresco eating, which you can have with properly cooked food. Wasps and flies permitting of course.

I don't know which I'd mistrust more, personally, the rats or the shellfish. Yum, all that lovely e.coli. Fine if the shellfish have been properly purged and then well cooked. But some folk insist on eating their victims alive. :| https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyl ... s-fat-duck

Think I'll stick to the steaks, thanks.

Dr Strangelove meets the Marx Brothers, since you ask. :(

On the bright side, though, Trump: the Musical will still be packing them in on faraway Galaxy 59 for the rest of time.

I see 2020 just gets better and better....

50-mile wide swarm of flying ants picked up on radar in the south of England, the Met Office reveals

So many ants are flying across England that they are being picked up on radar, the Met Office had revealed.

Meteorologists were baffled when sensors in the South East picked up what seemed to be rain, but people in London, Kent and Sussex were enjoying a dry and cloudless day.

Examining the shape of the 'droplets', which were picked up by radar, they found that they appeared to be insect-shaped...

In other news, Leeds have just been promoted to the Premier League...

At least we know it won't be long now...

Radar can detect the shape of the droplets???? Seems a little far-fetched.

Well that of course tells us something about the size of the things..

It's been that sort of year, don't you think, where on seeing a swarm of 9-foot flying ants approach the windows, we'll probably just let out a bit of a sigh and wonder what's taken them so long...

If it's all over before Leeds get to kick a top-flight ball again then it'll be no bad thing if you ask me.

I'm going to put some sugar out...

Cheers,

As a student I worked in the summer hols for a well known jam maker (and fruit juice with ads with annoying, precocious child actors). You might be surprised about the number of wasps and other insects that added to the flavour of their jams....

According to an article published in Nature on July 14, the Amazon Rain Forest is now a net contributor to greenhouse gases. Burning by humans and more recently forest fires are the reason. It emits more carbon than it absorbs.

That, I think is very scary.

Don't ever, ever drink a glass of cider, then. Everything that buzzes, stings or wriggles is in there. Not to mention a fair few things that squeak. In the good old days they'd have thrown in a dead cat or a lump of pork, "just to give it a bit of body".

Still, your ancestors drank it, and so did mine. It didn't work out so badly, did it? ;)

We are a self-selecting bunch though, innit...

On the subject of cider someone cruelly made me buy a slab of "Thatcher's Gold" cans of 4.8% cider recently. Now I dunno if there is something wrong with my alcohol receptors but when I drink this stuff it tastes just like I would imagine "Thatchers VINTAGE Cider" 7.4% would taste with all the alcohol taken out, but I don't feel intoxicated.

I can drink several cans of the stuff without feeling in the slightest bit smashed. Unlike when I drink just one bottle of their VINTAGE 7.4% version. The effect is so marked I checked the alcohol content on the tins expecting it to say 2.2% or something but no, it claims 4.8%. Weird.
