....to get the kids in, they're marketing a child size verion of the AR (Assault Rifle) 15 called the JR (Junior Rifle) 15.

Remember you used to be able to buy 'candy sticks' that looked like cigarettes? Same thing really. Get 'em started young

Pity about the canned laughter, which seems to take the edge off his points. :| But hey, respect to the guy for even asking those awkward questions on live camera, given the fact that so many of his interviewees are gun-carrying nuts with their sights (ahem) set on acquiring the next piece of mass murder gear.

But the best ballsy moment was when he asked his interviewee whether carrying an AR-15 was just another way of saying "hey, are you looking at my small penis?" OMG, a man could get blown off the face of the planet just for putting that thought out there.

Well, it's a start....

Just Stop Oil protesters jailed for scaling Dartford Crossing bridge -

Morgan Trowland and Marcus Decker were sentenced at Southend Crown Court to three years in prison and two years and seven months in prison

Two Just Stop Oil protesters who scaled a bridge on the Dartford Crossing, causing gridlock when police closed the bridge to traffic, have both been jailed as the judge stressed he wanted others to be deterred from copying them.

I was going to post about the revival of two former oil rig assembly yards at the Cromarty Firth and Adrersier into centres for renewable energy (as well as the dismantling of oil and gas infrastructure)

Image

The coastal revival on Scotland's horizon

Ardersier Port could be on the way to becoming a vital strategic location for a different purpose, linking energy across the North Sea rather than defending from it.

The 450-acre site used to be one of the big fabrication yards for the North Sea oil and gas industry, where thousands were employed by McDermott's to build vast structures for the pioneering offshore industry.

Ardersier, back in the day. Check out the double decker bus for scale.

But now I'm thinking we might be too late.

A recent, rapid heating of the world's oceans has alarmed scientists concerned that it will add to global warming.
This month, the global sea surface hit a new record high temperature. It has never warmed this much, this quickly.
Scientists don't fully understand why this has happened.
But they worry that, combined with other weather events, the world's temperature could reach a concerning new level by the end of next year.
Experts believe that a strong El Niño weather event - a weather system that heats the ocean - will also set in over the next months.

One of their ideas though, as noted in the above article, is interesting -

One factor that could be influencing the level of heat going into the oceans is, interestingly, a reduction in pollution from shipping.

In 2020, the International Maritime Organisation put in place a regulation to reduce the sulphur content of fuel burned by ships.

This has had a rapid impact, reducing the amount of aerosol particles released into the atmosphere.

But aerosols that dirty the air also help reflect heat back into space - removing them may have caused more heat to enter the waters.

A potentially difficult game of 'Whack-a-mole' then, this climate-influence stuff...

Cheers,

My thoughts exactly. Drink or dementia, I presume? Dammit, he even seemed to be trying to accelerate his way out of trouble after the cops were visibly (and audibly) on his tail. Highway to Hell on the radio, perhaps?

But why didn't he even try to get out of the blazing car once he'd stopped? He's lucky to be alive. Credit to those officers!

Have you had a look in your bin recently?
A report from the BBC. Apparently the schoolkids enjoyed the video. I wonder who put it in the bin?

A pubgoer spied struggling to get into his Mini Cooper at 2am was caught with the engine running whilst more than three times the legal limit.

Tomahawk McGinn claimed he’d just gone to his car to collect a friend’s belongings – although when police found him the headlights were on, the engine was running and he was wearing a seatbelt, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.

He should be charged with having a silly name too.

Chopper's wee brither?

Funnily enough I was once found in a very similar condition..

The polis didn't believe that I had started the journey in the passenger seat in which they found me. Engine was running in the private hire cab to keep the heating on cos it was the middle of the night, and the middle of winter. Driver had nipped out of the car to run the half mile or so to the hotel up the road (this was in Eastwood, Glasgow) to use their phone because the big fir trees were stopping his radio getting through and the clutch had snapped. Leaving rather drunk me to twiddle my thumbs for a bit, then explain to a pair of six foot fuds who pulled up in a jam sandwich panda car behind it, how getting a taxi is meant to work, and why this one was failing in that regard.

It got progressively more surreal as they asked me about it being my vehicle ("no it's a taxi - there's a light up there that says so"), about driving ("no officer I'm rather pished and I don't have a licence"), about not taking drunk driving seriously ("I do, I don't drive and I'm in a taxi")
The driver eventually shouted to them as he was running back to the car - by which time my hands were on the roof and they were patting me down.
I found the whole thing a lot funnier than they did... which is probably why they refused to run me home and I had to wait for a replacement motor.
