Names
I was having lunch with an old friend of mine recently and we are both of an age when we are permitted to reminisce about the old days. We were remembering about a chap at our school called Alexander Alexander, known of course as Sandy Alexander or sometimes Double Eck, the latter being a Scottish derivative of Alexander, in the same way that one time footballer Alex McLeish was often known as Big Eck, on account of his gangly features.

Re: Names
Neville Neville father of the footballing and netballing Nevilles is probably the most well known double named person (Duran Duran being fictional).

What about Rebel Rebel? Not sure RR was boy or a girl, fictional or otherwise. Merely a young dude.

You learn something every day, I had always assumed that Sandy was an alternative for Andrew.

Looking at other parts of the Bowie oeuvre, it is clear that the protagonist's name is in fact "Lucy". Rebel Rebel is descriptive not onomastic*.

*this isn't really the right word, but came up in a search for what the proper word would be when I decided that nominative wasn't right either. And as it is a word I had not seen before to the best of my knowledge, I have shoe horned it in

Re: Names
I once had a colleague called Austin Healey but he didn't own one.
And another colleague called Julia Toner who was quite understandably driven bonkers by each new introduction responding "as in photocopier?"

Used to work with a chap named Pstephen (silent P, a la PG Wodehouse books). Really wanted to name a moorfield junior that but Lady M was having none of it.
Yes, also an American colleague, Randy Numbers. No one could ever keep a straight face.

Re: Names
This is getting reminiscent of ISIHAC's Late Arrivals at the ****** Ball, such as "Mr & Mrs Tarytwostep, & their daughter, Millie"

I used to deal with a tax payer called Peter Ennis. He always signed his name in full. I also worked with a William Williams whose nickname was Billy Twonames.

In Bridgnorth, if I remember rightly? Well, I suppose it was probably better than Hampshire's Young & Butt, which surely cannot have survived in the era of Google lookups?
Meanwhile, Dorset used to boast an antiques dealer called Robin Bastard. And I believe there's still a solicitor somewhere with the same moniker. You couldn't make that sort of thing up. So I didn't.
