Damn, another one gone. One of the funniest of the whole Python crew, and probably the most refined sense of the surreal.
What was especially good was that he kept moving in very much the same direction for long after the gang split up. I don't think I'll ever forget his David Attenborough impression on April Fool's Day in 2008. This one completely fooled my American colleagues, who raved for weeks about the flying penguins:

Incidentally, there's a three minute BBC video on how they achieved the spoof, which involved a lot of CGI and significant numbers of guillemots. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzhDsojoqk8. (It's a bit Blue Peter, so apologies for the annoying voiceover.) But apparently this explanation was what it took to convince all those people - including the Daily Telegraph - who had republished the ground-breaking story straight, without anybody having noticed that the director's name, Prof Alid Loyas, might just have been an anagrammatic clue?
