It's lovely to see the Eurovision Song Contest back on our screens again. Good honest family entertainment that harks back to an era of simplicity, when we had all those nice bouncy tunes and everybody smiled all the time, and the world was happy.

I actually have a bottle of NZ Sauv. Blanc here ("The Ned") which can be OK
I've found that I prefer the German whites (Riesling etc) - and the best white wine I ever had was actually brought back from Germany, rather than being bought in the UK. I suspect they hang on to the good stuff...
Whereas many dry white wines are great, Sauvignon Blanc is disgusting sickly stuff. The Liebfraumilch of our times.
There are some good SBs - Cloudy Bay (apparently) and The Ned. There are also plenty of awful ones.
The Ned is the only one I'll ever buy and I don't find it sickly.
Waitrose sell it !

One my friends runs it. She is the one strolling around with a kind of headset on.jfgw wrote:It was indeed Sunny Chelmsford. I hope to be back there in the summer of 2022.
She told me last time that the ciders available were growing year on year at a remarkable pace.
I almost always find a way to attend at some point. Although it is important not to leave it to the weekend as only the local breweries are able to restock.

Re: Come and give us your Unpopular Opinion....
I don't think I've survived a Eurovision evening since 1971, when Britain's entry was something called Jack in the Box. I was in Berlin at the time, and it was clear that the Germans thought it was kind of catchy. Their cover version, "Der schwarze Mann auf dem Dach" ("the black man on the roof") was an instant smash hit, but for some reason it seems to have been erased from musical history.
Indeed so. Might be Schtella Artoisch, might be Foschtersch. Not my taschte anyway.

I think it was "Does the Team Think" when they had to summarise a play briefly, when the subject was "Waiting for Godot".
"Has he come yet?"
"No".

And the TV show 'Deal Or No Deal' could be reduced from 45 minutes to 45 seconds. Just choose a box, open it, and see what you've won.

Why not improve the thing exponentially by reducing those 45 seconds to zero seconds?

Bring back the Routemaster with the open rear platform. And have them not stop at stops but driver past very slowly so fat people can't manage to get on.
There's a vintage bus rally on the Isle of Wight... https://www.countypress.co.uk/news/20129867.isle-wight-vintage-bus-event-rydabus-back-2022/ we used to go on a Routemaster from a bus museum in Surrey. The heating didn't work, a bit parky.

Is that an UNpopular opinion?
The average tube driver's base salary is £55K, plus overtime and benefits worth another £20K or so.
I would force them to de-train and retrain to take nurses' pay and jobs - and in hospitals these are typically 12 hour shifts - particularly those in A&E who have to handle the drunks, knifings, sh*t, vomit and death. And, after five or more years experience, have the privilege of being paid between £31K and £39K.
RMT's Mick Lynch well knows that the slope is getting progressively slippery: that driving itself can be automated - vide the Docklands Light Railway.
Nursing cannot.
