Oodles, but I hang my head in shame that my nearest contemporary was Nigel Farage, who was apparently a complete [expletive deleted] during his schooldays.

This chap, you mean (yes, I'm in there somehwere)?
Looks like we may have attended the same School...
Fred Wedlock, Folk singer also attended and came back to entertain us a couple of times.
One of my circle of friends seems to have gone on to be a Right Honourable Lord Justice and co-founder of Matrix Chambers. For my part I have followed a somewhat slower career pace hanging about Bulletin Boards and still thinking £10 is a lot so spend on a bottle of wine.
Not School, but at Uni there was a Suzanne Charlton in my Physics set. She went on to present the BBC Weather for a while and her father, Bobby made an appearance on Graduation day.

In a Hard Days Night and had a close association with the Beatles. I know the school and it's a posh one.

There were only 3 Headmasters' Conference Schools in South Wales, Monmouth, Brecon and Llandovery. A lot of free places and scholarships at Monmouth, thanks to William Jones' Charity. It also took Monmouthshire County Council nominees when the 1943 act came in. Not as posh as you might think.

I recall your Al Stewart earlier (nice one) but although he may have sung about Haig (not that I can remember one), the latter would not appear to have been educated at the same senior School.
Am I misunderstanding or are you including prep schools?

Guess mine was a boring school, most notable being former PM Sir John Major - but he was there two decades before they let the likes of me in.

He was probably a better PM than most of the shower we've had recently. And his education had clearly provided him with some sort of a backbone. If Boris had been chairing a cabinet meeting when the building came under an IRA mortar attack, would he have calmly proposed adjourning the meeting to another room? Not if there was a fridge to hide in.
If we're including our uni contemporaries, I'd have to include Spencer Davis, who was in my department. Although he'd graduated just before I arrived, he and Steve Winwood and the rest of the gang were still hanging around the coffee lounge for another couple of years. Lovely guy, would do anything for you.

Re: Famous folks from your school?
From my very ordinary Sussex comp:
Richard Osman - TV Presenter
Mat Osman - Suede bassist
Gwendoline Christie - Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones
And in 6th form
Greta Scacchi (briefly) - Actress
Brett Anderson - Suede singer/songwriter
Most of these with exception of Ms Scacchi were after my time.

A handful of semi-professional footballers, none of whom I have ever heard of. All well after my time.

Steve Perryman was a well known footballer playing for Spurs. The others I haven't heard of.

Quite a few notable alumni from my old place… most recent ones are the Brownlee boys and Georgie Henley from the Narnia films. From the "olden days" -there are political names such as Dennis Healy, David Miliband and Alistair Campbell and some others such as Ken Morrison and David Hockney. In my year we had a gold medal swimmer, another marathon/10000m runner and an MP... oh and me.

Originally yes. Back in the day Victor Spinetti's brother, now a session musician, played for rival groups and we shared the same agent. The only difference between us is that he was talented and I was not.

I thought it was Tredegar, but I could be wrong.
