That may be true, but that does mean that everyone who had the disease in March would now get a positive test for antibodies.

Nor, presumably, does it automatically mean the antibodies are as a result of the March symptoms. They could be from a later infection, with no concurrent symptoms, could they not?

Of course it does not mean everybody who had the disease in March still has antibodies...where did I say that? But it does show that some likely do.

It could mean many things but the simplest explanation is that they had the coronavirus back in March when they thought they showed symptoms and the antibodies have not faded.

Oh and of course it could be a false positive...anything else?

You do that by hiding the change under something you can announce more publicly, like Protecting the Children. If necessary, all under cover of some recent child murder or terrorist outrage.

Actually 6s - it's to do with the IOS - if your iphone cannot take IOS 13.5 you cannot apply the app. Something to do with the bluetooth capabilities.

Me too. The reason I responded to you was that I listened to the programme live too, and a claim like that would have jumped out at me straight away.

Blimey, you guys are getting really paranoid! Thinking of various experiments which show what loust memories people have when they witness evenst, and a few experiences of my own, I'd say you just misheard or misremembered. That is the most obvious explanation and no other is needed.

Maybe you've all been watching too many physchological thrillers.

Arb.

I was rather hoping my smiley would indicate I thought my brain was the most likely culprit. Nothing to do with paranoia.

This doesn't give much hope of enough people using the app to make much difference.

12.4 million downloads by midday today. And it only covers England and Wales.

Is that 12.5m users have each downloaded it, or 12.5m downloads in total? I keep hearing people mentioning they downloaded it, fiddled about with it then deleted it to get rid of their fiddlings, then downloaded it again.

So we could possibly have substantially fewer than 12.5m actual individual users. This is already reminding me of tests carried out Vs people tested. Totally different numbers!

I don't like throwing away (well, recycling) things that work fine, but I guess I need to get an upgrade :(
I get a free phone with work, so it's a genuine dislike of trashing working kit, not (just) stinginess
What number are iPhones up to now? Any crap ones around?

Somewhat early days, with only 5 votes when I last looked.

Doubt they'll pull in more than a million votes. :)

Edit: Poll runs till 12 Oct 2020 19:57 Remind me after then to take a look.

I checked in at a cafe for lunch, all good.
I checked in elsewhere for a pot of tea and the staff member insisted that I also gave them my contact details saying that it was a government guideline as the app might not work properly.

The cafe was wrong - https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article/KA-0 ... =CAT-01027

If your business or venue falls into one of the sectors or categories that should provide a customer log, and a visitor chooses to check-in using the official NHS QR code, they will not need to provide their contact details by any other route.

However, you will still need to offer a manual option for recording visitors' contact details, for people who do not have a smartphone or do not want to use the NHS COVID-19 app.

"According to Matt Hancock" isn't inspiring me with confidence :)

I think we can ssume that of those 12 million, a substantial number will have found their phones won't work on it, and others will have downloaded it twice, and yet others will have looked at it, thought about it, and said "Nah! not using that".

We might have 6-10 million active downloads on the go, then, and many of those will only be out and about for a few hours each week. I wonder how many are needed before it is of significant value? Many more, I would guess, otherwise we are all too isolated in place and time to be of use.

I sound a bit down on this, but actually, I think it's a great idea in principle: my gloom comes from the reality of the situation and trying to get enough people to use it - plus my lack of confidence in the government to tell us the unvarnished truth. Everything Hancock and Johnson touch turns to dust, a history of vain-glorious hope unfulfilled.

Arb.
