Panic Buying Again!

The queue into my local Sainsburys carpark was extending back to the main road and blocking the access roundabout.

Ours does that most Christmas times. Anything to suggest it isn't just seasonal demand, rather than panic buying?

And the price of imported parsnips and brussels sprouts will soon reach tulip dimensions. It's all stuck in the queue at Calais, apparently, along with the burgundy. Mind you, I could sort you out with a bag of walnuts for thirty quid. :)

Are you sure it wasn't the queue of lorries waiting to cross the channel?

I just messaged my wife to say that, just like in March, the shelves were all full of the essentials. Still plenty of gin, whisky, beer etc. But maybe I should fill my trolley anyway. I've never been panic buying before. Is there a dress-code? ;)

I guess there will be an element of panic buying but mostly by people in the new Tier 4, or who were going to visit friends and family for Xmas in Tier4, who have now realised they are going to have to buy and cook their own Xmas dinner.

All the best, Si

Just got back from the supermarket.

There seem to be a lot of turkeys available this year!

The only shortage I noticed was Prosecco.

And the flipside of that is there are going to be a lot of seven-kilo turkeys being repurposed into cat food after the not-so-big day. What a load of rissoles.

Never known the queue of cars to tail back so far, there is a hundred yard slip road down to the carpark, so it is beyond normal Xmas shopping.

I am in tier 2.

Not close enough to the channel for it to be caused by port traffic, although a dual carriageway about three miles away has been earmarked for post brexit overflow.

I went out 10am this morning to buy Christmas from the local supermarket, spouts, stuffing, potatoes, blinis, orange juice, beer, wine and port. I'd already done mince pies & Christmas pudding, meat and hard liquor. Oh I got bacon and chipolatas I roll my own pigs in blankets - when did they stop being bacon wrapped sausages? I checked google maps for busyness before leaving and levels were normal, when I arrived the car park was a little less busy than I'm used to but I generally go at tea time. I was only there 30 mins but it got busier while I was in. There was only one person in front of me when I joined the queue, by the time I'd packed and paid walking out the queues were about 5 deep, as I left the car park was manic.

Went to local Sainsburys this lunchtime. Very quiet, no queues. Bought our turkey crown a couple of days before we were originally planning to, for reassurance.

But that's the limit of our panic buying.

Scott.

Pyjamas or night dress are de rigueur, although I believe the dressing gown is considered optional.

Isn't that was only sausages wrapped in bacon in Scotland?

I had never encountered the term "pig in blanket" until I was in America where they refer to sausages in batter, or toad-in-the-hole as we'd call it in England.

They should be closed by now. Did they let you out?

What, not 24 hours?

I can report back from a very brief visit to a Coop supermarket this evening, sometime between 7 and 8. Not too busy at all, and the shelves looked well-stocked. Got what I needed.
