Christmas and New Year disrupting normal delivery schedules perhaps? The pre Christmas lorry queues to cross into France probably didn't help.

We went to Waitrose on Wednesday. The fresh veg was a bit sparse, and there was no vacherin.

More crucially, they'd run out of Christmas puds, and mince pies with the exception of a Heston offering flavoured with carrot and caraway that I have to say taste really good.
Fortunately, Aldi were still well supplied.

Well, to pick on just the single item I named in the post you quote ... it's trade links to Ireland - not France - that deliver most of our mushrooms. At least the basic button ones I wanted (use routinely for stirfries, curries and the like) - though there were no other mushrooms either, unless somewhere in the dried or jarred sections where I wouldn't be looking for them.

The thing that our Tesco lacked was Brie in triangular packages. I usually buy either Somerset or Cornish, but was obliged to buy a round French one. Even the French triangular was absent.

Times are hard. We just have to get through this anyway we can. I suggest buying the round one and cutting it into triangles. :D

That must surely be only for the UK market? I have never seen Brie sold like this on the continent. It's always round. What a waste of packaging as well!

The brand is President. It's a long time since I was in a French Supermarche, but of course they all start out round. When the deli counter was open they cut it to the size you want.

Enormous apology! I was thinking of Camembert. Of course Brie is sold in triangles.

Isosceles? ;)

I will go and write it out 100 times.

Sectors, not triangles, surely?

I was trying to approach the topic from the same angle and make a cute reply, so no need to be obtuse about it. So merely continuing in the same vein:

PS Now we move onto which crackers go best with it and the expression 'water biscuits' etc etc? That should take us up to 2022. ;)

My choice are the Poppy and Sesame seed thins offered by Tesco.

The only ones I remember well are those tried and tested Jacob's Cream Crackers, which as a child, gave me the chance to go up to my Dad every Christmas, crackers in one hand, walnuts in the other and repeat the well-known and very tired old joke: "Dad? Your nuts and your crackers!" At that age, I didn't need a lot to make me laugh. Still don't, really.

Just to go off on a small tangent, he used to occasionally bring home a huge Stilton for Christmas, scoop out the centre and fill it with port, then cover it for a few days. As a child, I thought it looked disgusting, but over a few years, spreading a sort of stilton & port jam on the crackers started to grow on me. Unfortunately, I never asked him from where he got the idea.

This is getting serious - just been 'informed' that Waitrose French Butter With Sea Salt Crystals is no longer available with my online order. What's a chap to do?

Try Tesco. They have something similar.

Buy butter and buy sea salt. Spread butter as require and sprinkle with sea salt. I hope that helps. :D

Be serious! A Waitrose shopper wouldn't be seen dead in Tesco. And certainly wouldn't want a Tesco delivery van arriving at the manor

Almost as bad as walking down my street with a Lidl plastic bag.
