Glad to find myself in the majority on this one.

I'd say options #1, #4 and #5 are valid, but #2/#3 should be for those with medical issues (which could, to be fair, just mean drinking has crept up above what's good).

Plenty of time for teetotalism when you're dead.
Cheers !

Hmmm ... they say that for every unit of alcohol you drink you lose two minutes of your life.

I did a work back and I passed away fifteen years ago

And this one is a puzzle for Gengulphus (and it really does belong on this board in my drunken opine).

According to the NHS the average male living in the UK will have sex 5,500 times. Again I did a work back and I have managed to ascertain I will be 193 years old before I die.

How many women out there would care to service a man that age?

And where do I find them? History or Archaeology departments? Antiquarians? Classicists?

Try resurrectionists. Reviving the dead comes naturally to some people. ;)

I'm not sure Sportin' Life's approach to women would be acceptable today ;) Certainly wouldn't work for me. :?

You've only got one liver. Make the most of it.

Admiral Lord Nelson got it right: his corpse was pickled in brandy for the long sea journey home.
Whether the resulting spirit (not his) was subsequently bottled and sold off as "Finest Old Nelson" or "Admiral's Lament" we know not.

I used to drink a lot frequently, but have cut that down a long way. However, I tend not to get involved with things like Dry January. I will probably have some alcohol in January. My health has improved for various reasons and now when I drink I can identify the impact on my bp that night and in the morning (I keep records every day) and the impact on sleep etc. That to be fair does discourage me from drinking.

I come from a family of alcoholics, thankfully no one in my immediate family but I've seen two cousins and three uncles die of drink and others become shambling wrecks. This will be my 50th dry January, I was doing it before it became fashionable. I don't really think of it as saving my liver but just to prove to myself that I don't have that destructive gene or whatever it is that drives people to drink. I love good wine, interesting real ales, in fact I really enjoy a drink but I do dry January to prove to myself that I don't need to drink. Mind you I do look forward to February :D

The same newspaper has this:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/201 ... 30-minutes

Its not really the sort of subject where I would trust the reporting in newspapers. It is, of course, good human interest clickbait. However, it doesn't really tell people anything other than drinking a lot is bad, some people think you shouldn't drink anything and some people think drinking a bit is better.

I used to go to pubs a lot - almost every evening. I have given that up completely of late :(
