It is well worth R6's [re]reading the chapters of George Borrow's 'Wild Wales' that provide a classic invocation of what Ynys Môn and it inhabitants were like in the 1850s. And he managed to get by in North Wales at least - and even attend church services in Welsh "with edification" - without being able to pronounce ll correctly; he spoke fluent Spanish and seemed to think that the Spanish 'll' (a slightly guttural 'y') and Welsh version were said similarly.
