It's going to be a bit confusing for some England fans at the three Wembley matches...

Given that all three Group D opposition teams have already said they won't be taking the knee before kick-off, I wonder at what point after they've started booing the England team for taking the knee will it occur to them that it might look like they're booing the opposition for not doing so....

I hope the cameras have lots of close-ups of the crowd, right at the point where the realisation occurs...

Cheers,

Scotland to take the knee against England in Wembley show of solidarity

https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/spo ... olidarity/

At BannockBurn when the Scots knelt to pray:-
Seeing them kneel, the English King, Edward II, called out “Ha! They kneel for mercy!” misunderstanding their intent.

And since that ended up as one of our few and far between victories, maybe kneeling's not a bad idea.

Perhaps this needs a new thread but continuing with Euro 2020, I'm surprised nobody has brought up what happened to Christian Eriksen. Was shocked to actually observe what happened and in the States, unlike over on the BBC I hear, one could quite clearly see what was going on for quite some time. Regardless, just really happy to hear he pulled through as I feared the worst, but noticing the quick thinking of our English Ref and the speed with which they got the equipment out there needed, all in 90 seconds I hear, was just remarkable. And when they came back to play and got such a rousing ovation from both sides, one of the most emotional scenes I have witnessed at any sporting event and trust that CE recovers quickly and all is well.
Can he play again? TBD. I hope so.

Some of the scenes shown on the BBC were really quite upsetting, and Lineker was quick to apologise on behalf of the pictures being shown by the foreign feed - https://twitter.com/GaryLineker/status/1403778074991370245

Anyone who saw the terribly distressing pictures of Eriksen on his side initially, where the medics were checking for his tongue, will have been amazed to see him pull through I think - he looked completely gone at that point. As Lineker said later on - daft as you like, if you're going to have a life-threatening episode like that, doing so in a major football ground probably gives you the greatest chance of receiving the essential early treatment that anyone might need to get through it...

As you say - massive credit to the referee, who saw within seconds that this was a major incident and got all the medics onto the pitch as quickly as physically possible, and also to the Denmark players who bravely formed a human shield around Eriksen whilst he was being treated, to help stop the camera feeds intruding further on such a distressing scene. The live-feed producer who decided it was a good idea to show Eriksen's clearly distraught wife when she made it down to the touchline will hopefully be looking for other work this morning...

Given that Eriksen received both defib and CPR whilst on the pitch, I wonder if there's any way the medics would sanction him returning to professional football - it's nearly ten years since Fabrice Muamba had a similar on-pitch incident, and he retired shortly afterwards.

A terribly sad incident with as good an outcome as anyone could have hoped for given the circumstances. Any football fan will recognise what a huge talent Eriksen is, and it would be a sad loss indeed if that's his professional career over at just 29.

Kalvin Phillips was superb - justifiably man of the match.

Croatia are no mugs, but they had an off day today...

I thought the England right-back playing in the left-back position had a much better game than our No.9 had playing in midfield, mind....

I'm going along with the boring view point
However, it would have been MUCH worse to have been bored with the draw as a result

England pleased the pundits but for most of the match (after the first 25 minutes) they looked ineffectual to me. A lot of possession in midfield that always seemed to include a pass back to the keeper.

Passing: Am I being old-fashioned in thinking a good pass will allow the receiver to run on to the ball? So much of England's passes were to stationary players.

Agree with IAAG that Philips was the MOTM for England.

I think we've got to give some leeway regarding the early kick-off time and the very hot and humid conditions. I don't think it's a coincidence that both teams looked like they were struggling with those aspects to be honest, and it goes some way to explain how relatively poor Croatia were as well, to be fair...

I suspect things might be much more lively on Friday with the later, and hopefully cooler, kick-off time...

I hope Kane bucks up - he was lucky that the papers had three points to crow about, because he was poor...

It's the hope that gets you - we know.

I fully expect a Scotland team, relieved of pressure, to give England a very hard game.

Nice try. But with 4 third place teams qualifying for the next round, the pressure will be very much ON Scotland.

Course, England really need to win the group to stay at Wembley.

Chin up...

Their keeper had a blinder, and I fancied you for the equaliser before your goalie went walkabout.

2-0 flattered the Czech's, and if Clarke is brave enough to start Ché Adams on Friday then I expect it to be a good game.

Hmmm. No I haven’t. Let’s have a look then.
Likely (Gryff’s predicted) outcomes:
Winner gets France or Germany at Wembley second round. Then Spain in Rome in the next.
Second gets Sweden in Copenhagen, and then the winner of France/Germany group in St Petersburg the next round.

Neither of those is easy (even if we could choose).

Looks like we’re in the harder half of the draw. Though the other half has Belgium and Italy. Not many easy games at this level.

I started to get the traditional sinking feeling when Ryan Christie, after he'd beautifully jinked in to the Czech box, was tackled by O"Donnell
Still it was an entertaining game to watch
