Historic County Flags
In case you didn't know, today is the national celebration of Historic County Flags.
All 52 historic county flags raised in Parliament Square as festivities take place in cities, towns and villages across England, Scotland and Wales.

To quote George in Blackadder, I'm as excited as a very excited person who's got a very special reason to be excited.

Damn, how did I miss all those festivities going on in my local cities, towns and villages? I must have been spending my time with altogether the wrong sort of people.
Still, it's not too late. https://flagmakers.co.uk/products/flags ... nty-flags/ will sell me any such flag I want, and all I have to do is decide whether I want it with rope and toggle, headband and eyelets, Inglefield clips, or simply hemmed all round. Hemmed all round is the favourite at funerals, apparently, because it lies nicely on the coffin.
The Berkshire flag, one feels, was clearly inspired by the approaching prospect of a third runway at Heathrow:

Scene AGM of the Surrey County Council. They've been at it since 2.30. It's now 5.45. It's hot, they're tired, and the Lamb & Flag beckons
"OK, any other business? Please don't anyone say anything"
BnC (for it is he) Mr Chairman, can I raise the matter of the County Flag?
"Christ, not this again. Do we really need one? Can't it wait?"
BnC May I remind honourable members, that, once again, Historic County Flag Day beckons, and I do NOT want to be the only County not represented for another year. I couldn't look the Waitrose cashier in the eye last year. It was dreadfiul
"Er...ok, ok...umm...er… looks around the room and sees an abandoned chessboard in the corner. There you go: someone take a picture of that and pretend it's from...er...Sweden. Meeting adjourned - make mine a triple!!

I hear that the one with a White Rose is traditionally hoisted higher than the others (something to do with religion and possibly cricket).

Re: Historic County Flags
Lincolnshire's historic county flag was invented way back in 2005, following a competition by the local BBC radio station.
So, not very historic county flags then. Still, I suppose history has to start somewhere.
