I have to say the BBC's coverage has been pretty patchy. I understand it's to do with TV rights but I would have expected better for my licence fee money.

Though not as bad as Channel 4's British Lions rugby highlights on Saturday night. A one hour programme with 20 minutes of the match, the rest spent telling us about the match. Truly dreadful.

Eurosport paid out $1.3bn for the rights in most European countries. Not sure that BBC would have ever been able to match that. Believe the BBC are limited to two channels max, while Eurosport have essentially unlimited channels. We've paid £7 to get the coverage.

I think BBC's coverage has been pretty good. Don't forget the licence fee has been pretty much pegged in real terms over the last 10-20 years and you certainly can't say the same for Sky fees!

I particularly like the BBC's "Japan" studio in the heart of Salford!

I had wondered whether the studio was in Tokyo, or in a barn somewhere with lots of CGI providing the set. If you're correct I was right to be concerned

Well I think it's been patchy. Earlier tonight they were asking viewers to send in their sporting "mishap" clips, it's not "You've been Olympically framed"!

I just looked at the Matt cartoon in the Telegraph. It pictures a Covid briefing from No. 10.

Caption is "Our medal tally has doubled in 24 hours, if this trend continues, by mid August everyone in the UK will be an Olympic champion."

Why do they not devote all of BBC2 to the Olympics, and save everyone the trouble of switching channels? Alternatively put it on BBC Parliament while they are not sitting.

Yes and No. She will be continuously using some very subtle hand and leg movements there asking the horse what she needs, that most of us simply can't see which is what makes it look effortless. The equestrian events by the way are the only ones in which men and women of all ages (20s-50s) compete against each other.

If the former was a criteria we'd see football, athletics, maybe triathlon, tennis, errr... errr...

lets face it - rugby 7s is pretty minority itself. From personal "experience" many rugby 15s supporters etc view 7s as at best a bit of light relief and a p***-up. Others MMV being fair. (that deosnt eman its not highly skillful - but so is weightlifting, tae kwan do, target shooting, archery et al)

She did, in the interview I saw. She said it was a young inexperienced horse, so basically the horse's fault for them not getting gold!

I have always wondered just WHY presenters need to be at the scene of what they are reporting about
In the case of Olympics\WorldCup\any other major sporting event, it's just a jolly for the lucky presenters
It's the same with news reporters what value does it add to have the hack outside a landmark or he the scene

For the majority of the reportage that's true
- BUT there's always got to be someone who starts the chain of data through the fourth estate
