Saving water
I've been in the habit of using minimal water to shower, shortage or not. My routine is wet, shower off. Shampoo and soap, shower back on to rinse off. The shower is on for well under a minute.
I've also cut the amount in my scotch.

Re: Saving water
Two excellent tips that have often been recommended to students:
First, save water by showering with a friend.
Second, save water by peeing in the shower instead of the toilet.
To which I'd only add, consider the consequences before attempting both at once.

Re: Saving water
I'm waiting for the "I only use half a cupful of water when I take a shower" followed by "I do a weeks washing with the other half".

Re: Saving water
Just in case I was sounding too virtueous, I should add that I also take 2 baths a day.

In the summer I will go outside and pee on the compost heap.
And there is no need to flush for every pee:
"If it's yellow, let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down."

Urine is a good source of nitrogen. It will help the compost degrade but also peeing in your water butt, watering can etc will give your plants a boost.
Peeing in the shower is okay but it's usually polite to check that there's nobody in it first.
