Yes, we saw Obama's Osprey escorts when he attended the Newport summit. We were out in the garden, and the sky overhead suddenly filled with that extraordinary noise that they make. (You'd have to experience it to appreciate the sound of two 38 foot diameter propellers rotating at 350 rpm. Wobbawobbawobbawobba........ )

Closely followed by the two identical presidential helicopters, one of which was a decoy while the other held the man himself, on his way to a rendezvous with Stonehenge. We got up from our deckchairs and yelled a west country welcome, and the bugger didn't even wave. I ask you....

Yes , my first sighting was a day or two before the Windsor visit -just the Ospreys, presumably a recce. Quite striking - 'what the hell are those?'
Then we had the two Ospreys and two presidential helicopters (Marine 1 and a decoy..) when he left Windsor

Round these parts all I see is loads of Chinooks (presumably to and from RAF Odiham)

Had a nice walk on the Fife Coastal Path earlier this week, through the fishing villages of the East Neuk.

Anstruther. Not really a village any more, a bit of a tourist trap.

Pittenweem. The nicest one I think.

This picture was taken today by my son (also a Fool here). It shows Wallasea and Foulness as viewed from a transit of Southend airport's class D airspace.

For me it has the significance that in pursuit of an augmented reality game, Ingress, I have been boating along these rivers (The Crouch, left and the Roach, right) to get to the remote islands. Chris

We were up staying at John O' Groats last week - my wife is a Caithness native.
From our accommodation we had a view of the Pentland Firth, and the Island of Stroma, with some attractive sunsets

Image

Caithesss has some wonderful beaches - from small coves to miles of sand and dunes. And they won't be crowded - although you may see a few other people :)
One of our favourites is to walk along the shore eastwards from John o' Groats where there is a mixture of shell sand and rocks - ending at Sannick Beach, just before Duncansby Head. The primroses were in full bloom.

Image

A favourite occupation on this walk is to look for Groatie Buckies - the European Cowrie shell

Image

Driving west along the north coast, we stopped off at Sandside beach, which is popular with Surfers and Waders.
I took a photo of the Waders which posed to my satisfaction, however the Surfers couldn't stay still and kept kept falling off their boards.

Image

The Ringed Plovers were scurrying around, the Sandpipers were in a huddle, holding a conference, and higher up the Oyster Catchers were keeping a lookout.
There is a minor catch with this beach - its not advisable to pick up interesting shells.

On our way back south, driving through Wick, I thought that this reference may be of interest to Uncle E

More interested in those lovely snaps - and envious of you.

Obviously you're a long way from 24 hours sunlight, but I guess you're far enough north there to have 24 hours daylight - or at worst twilight - in this season?

The sunset photo was taken around 21:30hrs.
In early July I have fished off Reiss beach, just north of Wick, for Sea Trout and Sea Bass, in the late evening to early morning and the sun barely disappeared - with a glow on the northern horizon. The locals play a game of golf at midnight on midsummer day on the golf course behind the beach.
The downside is the temperature :)

A great little walk in the Cairngorms on Friday, me and the missus taking doggo up his first two Munros, Ben Macdui and Cairn Gorm. Only the second and seventh highest mountains in the British Isles...

Even after a week of sunshine there was still plenty of snow up there on the plateau.

Good views across to the Braeriach corries on the other side of the lairig Ghru.

Nice pics, Scott. I have to say that Cairngorm and Macdui probably win the "least pretty mountain" prize. High, but little more than a rocky, barren plateau. Nice view of Braeriach, mind.

Agree, but being able to start walking at the car park at 650m gets you some impressive stats quickly though ;-)

Also have to post this picture of a magnificent old Scots Pine from what is presumably one of the last remnants of the Caledonian forest. This is what a pine tree should look like!

We drove over the Lecht yesterday. Ships that pass in the night. Almost.

OK, I envy you, walking that scenery as your local stomping-ground.

Or ... are you back to walking yet, or still too limited?

I was off on holiday last week - some clues to the venue

Image

Its the Anchousa from Celerio, unloading its catch into the transporter from Sarrio, near Lugo in NW Spain

Image

And here is the Mariette Le Roch II from Lorient in NW France

Image

And finally the artwork on a Pechegroup transporter based in Milford Haven in SW Wales

OK - the final clue - its June and brown trout await my inexpert attention. All pictures taken at Lochinver Harbour.
