The UK has successfully fired a high-power laser weapon against an aerial target for the first time in a trial.

It is hoped that the test will pave the way for a low-cost alternative to missiles to shoot down targets like drones.

The DragonFire weapon is precise enough to hit a £1 coin from a kilometre away, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) says.

Give it 20 years and these will be 'Middle of Lidl'

Far out! 70 years after sci-fi writers failed to predict CDs and light shows we now finally have ray guns. :D

I was serious about the Middle of Lidl. Before long every little dweeb will be flying drones above your house and generally annoying the hell out of you. A decent high powered laser will be a must have accessory for all normal people.

We've had a lot of windy weather this winter in the NE. Just the other day, that's a tall lighthouse. A pal's photo.

Are you allowed to say "some waster"?

Unless it is he of whom you take the perpendicular pronoun?

"Some" would seem apposite given the absence of lower limbs in the picture?
There's no way that could be a "complete waster" without the legs being there ?!

True. With a bit of zooming I can see the limbs which looked like part of the bench at first glance. The waster is indeed whole.

The suggestion here is that you can load the contents of a book into an AI and from there it can produce a movie.

https://www.nextbigfuture.com/2024/02/o ... l#comments

If not a movie, perhaps a pre filming 'story board' for them to work off? Perhaps only bringing in human actors at the last minute? (Wasn't this what all the striking was about?)

.... And who writes the book. Do you just feed the AI a basic outline and let it crack on?

.....and who gives it the basic outline....?
