Number 7 was an eye-opener, if only as a reminder of what can go wrong. There you are, in a dark corner facing some nameless beast, and you reach for the crucifix and discover - too late! - that you should have gone for the sawn-off musket and silencer instead.

Picture #5 - those are the yellow socks as featured in Ian Dury and the Blockheads' "Reasons to be Cheerful - part 3".

Although to be fair, the uniform has been modernised a few times over the centuries

Which is more than anyone else has. His last post was on this thread on 7 November and simply said "Au revoir mes amis", and the last time he visited the site appears to have been on 4 December.
As he was such a regular poster I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel a bit concerned, and at the risk of being told in best Snorvey tradition to mind my own bloody business I'm considering sending him a PM to make sure he's OK. But before I do so I thought I'd better check whether anyone else has been in touch with him, and, if so, with what result?

Good Point CK. Yes please do PM him unless others have heard?

I hope he doesn't mind my replying on his behalf but, yes, he's absolutely fine. Merely taking a break from amusing everyone.
He signed off an email with:
Thanks to those concerned and a Happy New Year to all.

Thanks for that PD, in that case I certainly won't hassle him, but if he's reading this don't leave it too long, we miss your excellent photos (not to mention your particular brand of lunacy!)

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread
Sendai Daikannon is a large statue of the gem-bearing Nyoirin Kannon form of Kannon, located in Sendai, Japan.
It is the tallest statue of Nyoirin Kannon in the world, and the tallest statue of a goddess in Japan. As of 2018, it is the fifth tallest statue in the world at 100 metres (330 ft).
At the time of its completion in 1991 it was the tallest statue in the world, but has since been surpassed for that title.

Now, I know there's some zoom-lens, focal-length trickery going on here, but I still think it's a great photo, and to give a good idea of the still-huge scale of this thing, here's a couple of more traditional shots of the statue -

Its the two anachronisms in a supposedly technologically developed nation that surprise me - the statue and the electrical power distribution network.

Wasn't sure where to post this but it is a pic of sorts. You have to move your mouse and adjust the screen to see the whole page but shows you what water pressure can do to you at certain depths and regardless, thought it was quite amusing.

Indeed. It looks to me as though it's thinking, "Hmmmm, now, if I remember, the red wire goes to the railway line and this blue wire here goes to the creche. Or wait, was it the other way round?"

Out and about in the rain today near Wolverley. Pity I didn't bring a shovel with me to dig up the pot of gold!

That's a lot of you in one area.

Re: The Lemonfool my pic of the day thread
Another picture from Foolshire - taken this afternoon using a Moto4 mobile (cropped but that's all). I've been feeding the ducks for a couple of weeks (Heygates duck food) whilst the weather is bad. The ducks are cautious and curious!. In the background are some "interlopers" - Canada Geese. They arrived about a week ago, at first there was 12 of them but now there are just six - the others having departed. They seem to have fitted in quite well and the birds mingle, generally ignoring one another. There is a surprising size difference between the Canada geese and the normal residents. About 4pm they all head off in squadron formation to safer waters for the night.
