Sweet-spot yields - over 3.5% with long-term underlying growth

#442907

Postby Itsallaguess » September 17th, 2021, 9:15 am

I'm always interested to seek out income-investments with useful yields that also manage to display longer-term underlying growth, and so the table below lists FTSE100 and FTSE250 investments that currently yield 3.5% and over, and that can also show at least a 5 year history of underlying dividend growth, with the data presented in yield order -

Please note that the figures shown for the 'Years of dividend-growth' and the 'Yield' contain underlying URL links to the stock-specific Dividend Data pages showing the long-term yield growth and yield charts, if they are of interest.

As always, the data presented should not be used to form the basis of *any* investment decision without further research...

Cheers,

Noting.

BBGI is domiciled in Luxembourg and is trading at a very high (26%) premium.

Another very helpful table, thanks. Dividend growth does not necessarily translate into dividend growth per share though, which is probably what the average shareholder looks for. Phoenoix Holdings for instance had a year or two of static dividends (I have not checked) per share when they issued a large number of shares firstly to do the Standard Life deal and then Reassure. The dividend the company paid out increased each year but the dilution effect needs to be watched carefully. As has been well covered elsewhere this also applies to at least some of the infrastructure and renewables companies.

I will though study this table with interest.

INPP...I had a quick look at their factsheet. They are trading at a 15% premium to NAV and their total share holder return ( TSR ) is below that of the FTSE250 ( their figures! ).

AGR...stonking margins ( Gross 90%, Operating 80%..!) ... but stonking increase (dilution) of shares. The free cash flow doesn't cover the divi.

Dividend growth has pedestrianised in the last few years so the attractive growth figure in the table above is skewed by previous good increases...here's the numbers from dividend data.

Table updated to also now include 3 and 5-year total-return figures as well -

From the above, I hold LWDB and MYI, with each making up just over 5% of my income portfolio, with smaller holdings in both SVT and UU, which come in at just under 2% of portfolio capital each.

If one arbitrary defined dogs, or more charitably potential recovery shares as those with a cumulative total return over 3 years of under 10%, there are only two, only one of which is negative over the period,

I smell a 'RAT' .... ;) ..not a dog.

( Does a company have a say in the EPIC?).

So only 15 companies meet the criteria, and 7 of these are close-ended IT's.

Perhaps not too surprising after 2020 and the impact of the pandemic on dividends.

You would be hard pushed to base a new portfolio on these criteria.

I am not sure I would pick an EPIC like RAT.

I can well see why Scottish American changed theirs from SCAM to SAIN in the last few years. Who would want to invest in SCAM?

(Disclosure - I do!)
