Dividends 2023

#565112

Postby Steveam » January 30th, 2023, 11:18 pm

From the FT: 30/01/2023

Dividend payouts are expected to decline 2.8 per cent to £91.7bn as the volume of special dividends falls to a “typical year’s average”, according to fund administrators Link Group. However, underlying dividends are predicted to increase by 1.7 per cent to £86.2bn.

Best wishes,

Steve

And of course it depends on the make up of your portfolio. I am just going back to sleep.

The last few years have been pretty poor dividend wise. 2023 estimates suggest that, generally, dividends are below 2017 levels. Of course, some companies have managed to increase their dividend throughout this period but many "rebased" their dividend at a lower level.

The dividend recovery appears to be stalling!

The graph relates to UK companies but I would hazard a guess it applies wherever one had invested geographically. It would be interesting to see a report on dividends in other regions.

And threre's not a lot one can do about it, since the winners and losers will be largely unpredictable. Of course, "experts" will try to predict, but I suspect it'll be down to luck for us individuals.

But the consensus forecast for the following year is £97.5 billion.
