Powerhouse Energy Group (PHE)

#283928

Postby Pipsmum » February 13th, 2020, 9:27 am

Just a little snippet I noticed that seems very topical. Is has an SP of under 2p and used to have an SP of 22p in 2012 and 7.5p in 2013. I expect recycling went out of favour but I'll be surprised if it isn't back in favour now. There was a spike recently so others must think so too.

Any thoughts or insider knowledge on this company?

It looks highly speculative to me and appears to need more cash. Also, they have a £61m deficit on their profit and loss so the company has clearly consumed buckets of cash in the past.

Personally I think there are better speculative plays out there and I would avoid this one.

This seems yet a topic of interest lately and the SP has done a little zoom thismorning up to 3.85p and is currently on a pullback. They've just had planning permission in Cheshire. The SP used to be 588p ish in 2000. That's quite a stretchy price range.

This was on HL

(Sharecast News) - Waste-to-hydrogen technology company PowerHouse Energy announced on Wednesday that planning permission has been granted to Peel Environmental and Waste2Tricity, for the 'DMG' facility at Protos Energy Park in Cheshire.

The AIM-traded firm said the Cheshire West and Chester planning committee approved the planning application made by Peel and W2T for Plot 10b.

It said the application was granted with the expected conditions, and would be complied with by Peel and its construction team.

"We congratulate Peel and W2T on the success of the planning approval for the first facility utilising our proprietary DMG technology," said PowerHouse chief executive officer David Ryan.

"The decision represents a key milestone for PowerHouse and, after developing the technology alongside Protos at Thornton Science Park, we now look forward to working alongside Peel to complete funding and delivering the first commercial application of the DMG technology, creating hydrogen from waste plastics and helping to kick start the hydrogen revolution in the North West."

Someone asked me what I thought ... so did a little digging.
I do like the idea of waste to electricity, particularly the plastic waste. But not all good ideas become good businesses.

Noticed fron RNSs: PHE "Issue of Equity" was 108,821,991 in the last 6 months!

June 2,003,502
May 4,100,000
April 5,500,000 + 2,500,000 + 7,800,000
March 3,750,000
Feb 25,440,350
Jan 57,728,139

Thats probably about 5% of the total 2 billion odd shares in six months.

Noticed that directors and connected persons hold approximately 1.17% of the issued share capital, which is odd. If it is such a good plan, why not have larger holdings?

Also seem to be lacking the usual Institunal Investors ... seems over 50% holding via nominee accounts.

The other share that online people seem to be mentioning in the same breath is EQT Eqtec plc. Those have also spiked recently, so no idea if this is coincidence or a resurge of interest in such things for a newer greener world.

Does anyone know of other companies very like these EQT's and PHE's? That recycle old plastic to useable gas in a green way?

Preferably that are little minnows right now. I really do prefer the idea of investing in the future of green energy...

...but as you say, it doesn't mean their businesses are necessarily well run. I do wonder though, about investing a small amount in all the new and small ones, and one day maybe one will soar and cover the whole investment. It's always annoying to realise one could have been the early bird after the worm is long gone, and I seriously think green energy will be where it's all going for the future.

The normal way to make energy from waste is to burn it.

Pennon's Viridor arm built & operated many such energy to waste facilities. Recently a PE backed carve out has been agreed, https://www.pennon-group.co.uk/media/ne ... al-viridor . You might want to look into who are their global peers. A sufficiency of scale is required to make that successful, and imho Viridor had just achieved that, but now they are being sold ....

Thank you. Most interesting. A google search led to a list of the top 20 waste operators.

Even through an epidemic, waste isn't exactly going to go out of fashion. Just a matter of seeing who's greenest of the green.

One other company that you may or may not have considered is the "half green" Simec Atlantis Energy (SAE). I owned shares in the Atlantis days and sold them at a good profit when I realised that the UK government would not subsidise tidal energy in its early development stage, despite its superior predictability, and the fact that high tide times vary enormously. Atlantis successfully set up their initial area, Maygen, in Scottish waters, which was to eventually contain something like a hundred generating turbines (iirc), with a five unit array, which has been generating well for the past couple of years. But, the lack of UK willpower meant that Atlantis couldn't get help to reach the benefits of extensive manufacture, installation experience and improvements in cost, utilisation of power connections etc, which would in time have brought down costs substantially.

So after a year or two in the doldrums, they ended up half owned (iirc) by Simec, who sold them a small hydro designing, promoting, building and running company, which had a few small hydro electric schemes in Scotland, as a second leg. They then bought a closed Welsh Coal fired power station which they are planning to convert to burning waste, mainly plastic, which they claim is cleaner than gas, I believe. Planning on that venture, and work on designing and testing burners and the pellets manufactured for it, appears to be progressing well, although I believe that the main customer for the power station is a steel works, which creates some uncertainty. Obviously this conversion will be a big expense, but if all works out it should be highly profitable, and there are plenty of coal fired power stations in the world providing the possibility of repeating the conversion.

The other promising thing is that the French have formed a JV with SAE for tidal power in Normandy (iirc), and appear much more committed to tidal, with a similar enormous potential capacity, than our short sighted bunch.

The other thing which strikes me is that Simec might well choose just the right moment, as success looms, to buy out the shareholding that they don't own. Perhaps there are arrangements within the purchase agreement when they came in, that would prevent that, but without seeing detail of such, it is hard to tell.

Thank you I'll have a look. I like the green aspects of that and the sea isn't going to vanish unless we evaporate it.

Nor, hopefully, are the sun and the moon likely to disappear soon, and when you look at the high tide differences just across the UK for example, and realise that if you can hopefully generate from both incoming and outgoing tides, the short slack periods as tides turn would be staggered across the UK, providing a fantastically predictable power source. Vive La France!

I mentioned them the other day (I've had a few for ages) on the Oil&Energy board: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=24195

The Uskmouth power plant does seem to be progressing very well. I read the cost of conversion would be £180m but bring in £30-£40m a year.

Neither energy demand or rubbish supply is ever going to go out of fashion, so its a good long-term investment, but it all depends on how well they can capitalise on it, or sell the tech or consulting knowledge to other places that want to re-purpose coal power plants to rubbish power plants.

The other aspect - the tidal stuff - has a boost too, the government has decided to split the subsidies for renewables so that wind doesn't hog it all. encouraging different tech makes a lot of sense, maybe Cumming's isn't so daft after all 'cos I can't have seen the rest of them coming up with such a plan! Tidal should attract a fair bit of that, though it'll be in competition with floating wind turbines apparently. If the rubbish-to-power stuff can be classed as 'renewable' then they may get the subsidies too.

As for PHE. I was interested in them a while back, looked at the claims on their website and thought it was pretty cool. But they have zero installations, and that worried me a lot. Pie in the sky came to mind, so I stayed away. There's also the Swindon-based Recycling Technologiesthat has this machinery that turns unrecyclable plastic back into an oil that can be used to make new plastic. They do have a demo plant that's been running since 2018. I don't think they're listed but I thought you'd find it interesting.

PHE latest was an issue of equity. It made the SP go up but I don't understand enough about this sort of thing to 'get' why it would. Is this just cash raising?

Noticed that one of the directors of EQTEC has taken 50k of shares instead of salary on the 9th July.

https://investing.thisismoney.co.uk/quote/EQT

And four more directors deals here...

Very interesting since rumours of news for August..... just read about within gossip internet pages here. (No truth of my own proving).

https://www.lse.co.uk/ShareChat.asp?Sha ... hare=Eqtec

And an oversubscribed fundraiser explaining the director purchases

EQTEC added that the funds will be used to boost further intellectual property development, contract suite improvement, internet of things software development and additional human resources.

So not to actually do anything then! :)

There are upward early stirring signs in the sp's of both PHE and EQT after a long droop on each. Maybe the election is going to trigger more enthusiasm for a leaner, greener world. Let's hope so.
