Companies that are still trading in Russia

This list from Yale School of Management may be useful when making investment decisions.

Since Putin's devastating invasion of Ukraine began, 250 companies have announced their withdrawal from Russia in protest.

Nevertheless, some western companies have continued to operate in Russia undeterred; we identify several dozen companies with particularly significant exposure to Russian markets. In the days since we initially published our list, many of the "remain" companies have responded to public backlash and decided to withdraw, and we are continuously revising our list to reflect these decisions as they are made.

The full, current list of companies that have curtailed operations in Russia as well as those that remain, as of March 8, can be seen below.

There is a risk that some of these companies may be subjected to a consumer boycott, but for some of them it is a lose-lose option, e.g. if they withdraw McDonalds stand to lose 9% of their revenue, if they stay they may still lose significant business through boycotts.

Lets keep this thread on the financials rather than the politics, we have enough threads for that already.

Carlsberg own Baltika Breweries employing over 8,000 people in Russia and have simply said they won't put any more money into it. Their statement on this was just a load of the equivalent of greenwash and they have basically done nothing!

Further risks include:
- revenues now in massively depreciated currency, roubles
- restrictions on converting from roubles to other currencies
- restrictions or bans on removing any profits from Russia
- fall in profits due to collapse of Russian economy
- breach of US/EU sanctions leading to subsequent financial penalties
- expropriation of assets by Russian government
