British American Tobacco's SP weakness today.
I hold BATS, and have done for years. The 5.2% drop in SP as I type is a bit of a surprise to me tbh. Have I missed something? I haven't seen any news about them that might've justified such a slide. Having said all that. I've no intention of selling my BATS holdings, if ever tbh.

Smoking is on a long term decline. I wouldn't try to predict short term SP movements because the yield has its attractions, but in the long run it's only going one way.

Thanks for your input. I do get where you're coming from. In fact, on looking at the 5 year performance of the share, via HL here; https://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-sear ... dinary-25p , you may be right.
The bottom line for me though is that I bought them for the yield they offered, and the added diversification to my HYP too. Those things still stand imho. I have no intention of selling my BATS shares any time soon. As a HYPer, I should remember that share price movements are immaterial. It was the drop today that caused me some angst as I didn't know why it had happened.
Thanks again,
Ian.

Re: British American Tobacco's SP weakness today.
There was a very negative article in last Sunday's Sunday Times about BATs and other tobacco companies. The gist of it was that the tobacco companies were helping fund Russia's war with Ukraine via taxes imposed on their sales in Russia.
"Russia’s cigarette industry is dominated by three companies who control most of the market: British American Tobacco, Philip Morris International and Japan Tobacco International."

Thanks for your input. I wasn't aware of this. If true, this does bother me tbh.

For comparison IMB was down 1.1% but they are "out-of Russia.
BATS is getting out of Russia.
Have a look at the LSE web page at the end of the day.

The effect is replicated here

I'm not sure what the explanation for this is..perhaps a very large sale early on and a buy back later?
( need to check the crossing trade figure!)

A Goldman Sachs downgrade to neutral

Goldman Sachs changes its rating and switches from Buy to Neutral. The target price is lowered from GBX 4050 to GBX 3800."
Does GS have THAT much influence on the BATS shareprice?
Separately, there was a report that vaping might be more harmful than initially thought. I've no link but it was in news this week.

Re: British American Tobacco's SP weakness today.
I was hoping for a continued upward trend so I can eventually sell when the yield is lower and switch to another investment.
