The newly-opened Northern Station (now known as Kings Cross) suggests the Alphabet was compiled in the 1850s.

And it again looks like it did then now they have removed the 1960s extension on the front - where I spent many an hour waiting for cancelled trains.

Bnc, thanks for an extremely interesting post. I'd never even heard of the London alphabet but I've forwarded the link to my children and grandchildren because it's the sort of thing they find interesting. I have printed a copy and will settle down to learning a couple of verses a day.
