Hattrick Season 77

#376261

Postby Donut102 » January 12th, 2021, 3:04 pm

Another season is nearly upon us!

Div IV

Auto-relegated from III last season, I find myself in a competitive IV. However the league forum is starting to become active, and I think I'll quite enjoy my time in this league.
Last seasons runner-up has an awesome team, and will most like win this season. In a way it takes the pressure off, as I know I can't really compete. So I'll focus on the Cup, aiming to better my R7 performance last season.

I'm in the last throes of defense training, and will switch to PM mid-season. I also have 2 good YA prospects who I'll retain, and will need the PM training so that will work well. To make room I'll sell my ageing TDF, plus a stop gap playmaker I bought last season to replace an aged home grown player. I figure I then have another 2 seasons of training before the squad can be competitive again.

Div V

I came 2nd last season, but the champion failed to win his qualifier. I lost both games against him last season.
I'm going full MOTS in the first match - a win means I have a chance at the title, and a loss or draw means give up & train/ cup run. No half measures this time round!

Hope you're all coping with the latest lockdown. The patio heaters I ordered in August for back garden socialising have finally arrived, 3 months too late...

Cheers
Donut

In England...

Our series winner has ducked out, and moved elsewhere.

I'm training scoring this season, and have shuffled the pack selling off some homegrown passing trainees together with my out of form unpredictable GK, and yesterday bought a £12.24m GK who is only a season older than my oldest forward trainee. I've also got a quick Wb and a head spec Wg/Wb in their early 30's bought with the proceeds of my high waged South African.

There's no reason I can't be reasonably competitive this season, my main objective is to get as many Cup games as possible for the experience gains. Promotion is less of an issue as I'm on 10% for at least 3 seasons - possibly more. Great to have Eastheath in the league with me, I'm not sure yet how we can help each other but the season is just beginning.

I'm also lined up to become England U21 Assistant manager if Jack wins the election.

In Oceania

I had more trouble shifting my unpredictable GK from this team listed for £10m, and then he picked up a +1 this week, after 77 minutes. I still want to upgrade to a NT standard GK instead of the current youngster, so I'll be looking at it again shortly. One team has gone bot in the league, and the demoted team looks beatable so the target is promotion, and a decent Cup run. My defender training should finally come to an end bar top ups to skill drops in 4-6 weeks, ideally linked to when I drop out of the Cup so I can switch to passing in friendlies while still playing CA in the league. Formation building for when I start set piece training next season is also on the agenda.

My youth team is set for a good season with 3 solid PM with ok secondaries and specs (Unpred/tech/quick) and the transfer market seems quite strong for Oceanian youngsters with U21 potential, so the funding of a 3rd forward and/or offensive IM to help central attack ratings will have to come from this as my current small surplus os earmarked to go toward the GK upgrade.

In South Africa

The NT failed to reach Q1, but we kept fighting to the last game. Friendlies planning for Cap distribution is on track, and we no longer have to worry about formation experience, as any incoming manager chooses 6 to employ with useful experience. That's a good change. I've asked for our head scout to step up to the Assistant Coach role for the coming season, he's been a useful contributor over the last season, and deserves to get another promotion!

My team is still defender training for my GKs but it was nice that my no spec homegrown Wb got a U20 cap in a friendly this week from the outgoing manager. He's not asked for me to raise stamina as yet, and neither has the most likely incoming manager, so accelerated training continues to be the focus, and surviving more than one Cup round, if at all possible, from my ranking position as a III winner.

Stan it's all about fantasy football. Quite popular and probably merits its own board.

Season preview and week 1 summary in one...

Kevster's
Autopromoted to III.6 for this season. A quick review of average haststats, power ratings, total TSI etc would rank me 3rd, 4th or 5th, for what it's worth. It gives me some hope of survival anyway, which is my target. Looking forward to a bit of comptetition having won 13 out of 14 league games last time.

In the off-season I sold a trainee winger and trainee WB, and used the cash to upgrade my first team GK from [age/GK/Def] 32/14/11 to 29/15/11. I can't see any first team transfer activity during this season barring major injury.

Week 1
Cup
Straightforward 0-6 win. PIC, of course.
League
Home to the other autompromoted team Baggio Villans, who play 2-5-3 with 2 WBs. Strong midfield, and rating predictions suggested they would shade MF but my attack %ages should be much better than theirs. They sold a promoted youth for >£5million a week ago so had reinvested that in a couple more 31yo MFs. I played PIN. Actual ratings were pretty much as predicted. I was winning 2-0 at half time, but they had drawn equal within a few mins of the restart. Final score 4-3. Good win to start the season.

Hoi An Lunt Kickers
My new team in Vietnam. I've had a couple of weeks since signing up to establish a training regime, as already documented. We are in Div V.6. There are 7 new teams and 1 bot in the league. I want to promote first season as Div IV is also sparsely populated with active teams so I want to get to Div III asap. I suspect there may only be three active teams at most within a few weeks. League matches are 7am Saturday UK time, Cup/friendlies 4:30am Wed training 4:15pm Thu, so spreads the activity a bit more over the week.

I have just started a Youth Academy and we have our first league game tomorrow.

Week 1
Cup
No expectations against an esatblished Div III team in our first competitive match. PIC. Lost 1-5. One team in our league is still in the Cup following a walkover. The surprise was the £93,333 prize money "for the team's achievements in the cup" as there are only 8 rounds here. So I'm in the alt Challenger Cup now and have a winnable home match this week.
League
Away to another new team who has had little prep for the season. I expected to win on PIC and did: 1-4. I full expect to win next week's home game.

Fly Suckers
My new English team in VI.286, a few days' younger than the Lunt Kickers above. Again this league contains 7 new teams and 1 bot. Unlike the Lunt Kickers I was dropped in at position 7, not 2, so didn't benefit from any prize money from the previous season; nor will I get prize money for being knocked out of the Cup in R1. Those two bonuses totalled about £270K, so this team will have a more meagre start.

Week 1
Cup
As above. Opponents just demoted from Div IV. I took a surprise second-minute lead but it was too much and I lost 1-6. Into the Craig Wozniak Cup and have a winnable home game next week. Again one team in my league is still in the Cup, though they had a genuine Cupset and should have been spanked.
League
Nice easy home match to the only bot in the league. PIC. They scored first but we won 3-1. One of my forwards was sent off in the second half; he'll serve his suspension in the Cup and will be back next weekend.

Cheers,

Kevster
