Test cricket
Try telling anyone at Headingly today that there's anything better than test cricket. This series has been superb and uplifting entertainment. Bairstow and Overton were almost unbelievable in their destruction of the NZ attack. Fantastic.

Yup, but England seem to have moved on from relying on Joe Root to save the batting onto Jonny Bairstow to save the batting.... not sustainable.
If only all 1-6 could collectively put together even modest innings at the same time, that's 200+ runs on the board and/or long days in the field for the opposition.
Questions over Zak Crawley, he's not contributed.
Jamie Overton has had a cracking start, a better bat than Broad or Anderson at 8. Surely deserves another go against India, which then begs the question - is James Anderson done, or will he get a cloying send off. He probably will, at The Oval.

Re: Test cricket
I think this is a cracking series. NZ don't really deserve to lose it 3-0 but hey - tough.
In England's 2nd innings they really needed a class spinner - as Leach is now showing himself to be - but they don't and the runs flowed.
Anything can still happen tomorrow but it'll be a full house as it's free entry and should be a lot of fun.

Re: Test cricket
Is Bairstow currently the most destructive batsman in the world? It seems that he is impossible to bowl to at the moment.

Firstly let me congratulate you on avoiding the ECB/BBC edict that batsmen should be called batters.
Secondly my personal view is that a 'destructive' batsman is one limited to white ball cricket. A quality purist batsman can equally destroy an attack through class, deft touch and solid text-book strokes and defence.
Perhaps you are using 'destructive' in a different context to that which I am interpreting it as.
England are playing white ball style in a Test situation. Not sure if I'm completely comfortable with this approach, although I guess it's reviving interest in the five-day game.

Re: Test cricket
Again a day of test cricket to savour. Again a free day tomorrow with England enticingly placed for an unlikely win. They should do it as they still have 28 overs before the new ball which could upset the apple cart. Whatever the result, it's another enthralling test match.

Re: Test cricket
I hate to jinx things but at the moment England look like they are redefining what is possible with the bat in terms of chasing down scores in final innings. Incredible. Long may it continue.

Re: Test cricket
This new England with their "can do" attitude seems to have dispelled the myth about batting fourth. 378-3 today was a stroll in the park.

An amazing performance - with 7 wickets to spare!
All 4 tests so far this summer have been rivetting. In each of them, the other team has been well on top at stages. Beats one day thrashes hands down.
