A sad day, ultimately they are victims of the move to professionalism.
The 1971 LIons included a record seven players from London Welsh.
They need £300k. Any rich Welsh people around want to help a legend down on their luck?

Yes, very sad. Was listening to the news on Radio 5 live on the way back from watching a University match. Something like 150 Welsh caps and 45 or so Lions. I haven't checked but I wonder how many of those were before the professional era. I'm guessing all (although I've just spotted Gordon Ross who played at 10 for Scotland but that was pre Welsh).
The 20 point deduction would put them bottom below Richmond.

Chris Jones, BBC Radio 5 live rugby union reporter
This is a sad day for one of Britain's oldest and most famous rugby clubs, but a salutary lesson of the harsh financial realities of professional rugby.
In hindsight, London Welsh should never have chased the Premiership dream without the backing, management or the infrastructure to be sustainable.

London Welsh will live on as the Amateur Club is not affected by the current problems and has thriving teams at all levels. It is only the professional team that has proved to be unsustainable. My thoughts are with the players and other staff being made redundant at this time, and hope they find new berths soon.
