Just . . .wow!

6 months after getting to the Champions League Final, he's gone.

Can we have him at West Ham please?

Unbelievable.

Just when I’d got used to not having his miserable face on the tv all the time.

I do not know the background to this but it was not long since Pochettino was the golden boy and a very successful one at that. With Mourinho's background, that is surprising to say the least.

Definition of a second-rate club... appointing a manager with more trophies than you have.

Interesting to see how Mourinho gets on with Levy holding the purse strings and fans accustomed to attacking (if ultimately ineffective) football.

I'm sad to see Poch go but we've not won away since January and clearly the squad are not happy this term, so something had to give, and it is pretty traditional in such circumstances to chop the manager. There are plenty of examples of fine and effective managers being fired not long after major achievements.

Whether the performance this year is his fault is another matter. Leaving several members of your squad at home while you go on a pre-season tour, so that they can find another club, and then not selling them is unlikely to be a winning strategy. It is easy to see Levy's hand on that particular issue. The other thing I can see being a cause of upset is salaries - the salary cost at Spurs is way, way, below that of their peers, and while that is great from a business point of view, it's easy to see that it would cause big resentment. That's not going to be down to Poch either.

I'm even sadder to see Mourinho join. On one hand, his fantastic record is undeniable. But on the other hand, his football is often negative, he comes across as an extremely unpleasant person, and his performance level seems to have gone off the boil ever since the incident with the Chelsea doctor. I fear that he is in terminal decline.

Obviously I'll be the first to big him up if he is successful though, even if it involves us playing 5 at the back plus 5 defensive midfielders.

I think it's an odd appointment looking at it from both sides.

I'd probably take him at West Ham though, if only to watch him witness some of the football that's been served up this season.

Yeah, Jose generally only likes to manage teams with a big transfer budget. He likes to try and buy success, which is also why he said once he would never manage a national team.

So in the same way as you could never see him going to Everton, Bournemouth or Newcastle, his style conflicts with Levy's cheapness. I can only assume that Jose got assurances of a big spend to take the job, possibly as soon as January.

As for Poch, a year ago he was in line for the Man U. job, replacing Jose. Ironic. How the semi-mighty fall from grace so quickly.

A very strange appointment indeed. The Chairman who hates to spend money appoints a person who loves to spend it. Intriguing!

Pretty much all of the best managers get sacked eventually. Even Klopp left his last two jobs under a cloud.

I imagine that Poch and his team will not be unemployed for long - they will go to one of the top clubs in Europe. I just hope that their contract allows for some sort of salary clawback if he does go somewhere else quickly.

I doubt you'll see him smile again this season.

How does the panel think Harry Kane (and a couple of others) are going to like playing for Jose.

Or maybe he's planning to sell the very valuable forwards in order to boost the defence.

Bale was sold in 2013.

Eriksen and Lamela are still at Spurs. Perhaps only Soldado out of the other five was an unqualified failure.

I know it's easy to forget that Vlad Chiriches and Etienne Capoue were ever at Spurs, or for that matter Paulinho, but I wouldn't call any of those a success. FWLIW The only people I want to leave Spurs are Uncle Fester and his Uncle Joe.

All the best, Si

Mourinho will wish that he could play West Ham every week.

Think we’ll have a better idea of how he is getting on after 3 months.
