Eng have won 3 of the 4 tosses in India giving them an advantage. Regardless of their ability to capitalise on this it strikes me this is a poor system given luck should be minimised in professional sport.
Would it not be better to have a toss for the first test but then alternate the decision for subsequent tests? OK, if an odd number of tests this still gives an advantage to the winners of the first toss but the element of luck is at least reduced.

Which then allows the home team/groundsman to prepare a pitch in advance knowing the outcome of "the toss".
